Project Cost Controller III Contract Duration: Through 01/19/2027 (with potential for extension)

Location: Jackson, MI 49201

Work Model: Hybrid (In-Office: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday; Remote: Wednesday, Friday)

Position Overview The Project Cost Controller III is responsible for monitoring, tracking, and controlling costs associated with one or more construction and engineering projects. This role serves as the primary cost control resource for assigned projects and requires strong analytical skills, exceptional organization, and demonstrated proficiency in project cost management tools and techniques. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience supporting large-scale construction projects, applying project controls methodologies, and ensuring accurate and timely cost reporting. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and management are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Review, track, and process project invoices to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Monitor contractor performance and expenditures, including tracking contract commitments and actuals.

Administer project change control processes, including documentation and cost impact assessment.

Maintain and update cost tracking tools, spreadsheets, and project financial reports.

Perform data entry and support miscellaneous project reporting activities.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to collect cost, schedule, and progress information.

Interpret project schedules to support accurate cost forecasting and financial projections.

Ensure timely and accurate reporting of project financials, variances, and trends.

Support audit activities and ensure adherence to project controls standards and procedures.

Prioritize and manage multiple tasks while delivering high-quality work within established deadlines.

Required Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in project cost control, project accounting, or related project support roles.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel functions (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, lookups).

Understanding of construction projects, contracting principles, and accounting fundamentals.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.

Ability to follow direction, manage priorities, and work independently in a fast‑paced environment.

Ability to interpret engineering and construction contracts and apply cost control methodologies.

Ability to read and understand project schedules (no schedule development experience required).

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Experience implementing project controls methodologies on large‑scale construction projects or managing cost controls for large project portfolios.

Experience with SAP or similar enterprise project management/financial systems.

Professional certifications (PMI, AACE) strongly preferred and considered a differentiator.
