The department seeks an administrator to provide oversight of fiscal functions in alignment with university policy and strategic objectives. Serve as principal financial consultant to the department chair. Oversee and conduct complex accounting and finance functions; collaborate with faculty associates and staff to plan strategically and set fiscal goals. Develop the department’s annual operating budget (including endowments, grants, and instructional soft funding). Provide expertise for fiscal forecasting and align objectives with the Dean’s Office goals. Deploy and track budgets for area, production, and research, including scholarships and assistantship funds. Review and improve operational financial procedures, reporting, account structure, and approval framework. Develop procedures for collecting, analyzing, and reporting financial data. Prepare ad-hoc financial reports as needed. Initiate reconciliation processes and monthly expense account certification. Manage year-end closeout and roll-forward activities. Supervise two business affairs staff members, including hiring, training, and evaluation. Review and approve account requests, professional payments, travel, purchasing, and related reimbursements. Set purchasing limits and oversee Workday-based processes for UT-affiliated payments and hourly worker setup in compliance with HR and Payroll rules. Review and submit purchasing and performance contracts. Approve, set up, and monitor all income-generating financial activities. Ensure compliance with university policies, state and federal regulations. Monitor special faculty grants, student support, and donations. Coordinate fiscal activities with collaborating departments and assist with special projects. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. Six years of progressively responsible experience in finance or accounting with experience in planning, forecasting, and financial analysis. At least three years of supervisory experience. Ability to plan, initiate, and complete assignments with minimal direction. Strong analytical skills with ability to translate complex data into understandable information for action. Excellent communication, planning, problem solving, project management, and customer service skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Required Competencies: Effective Communication, Decision Making and Critical Thinking, Conflict Management, Strategic Planning, Problem Solving, Relationship Management, Teamwork, Service Excellence. Preferred Qualifications
At least five years of experience at UT Austin. More than six years of related experience. Experience with university systems such as DEFINE, FRMS, Cognos, and Workday. Experience with intermediate or advanced MS Excel features. Salary Range
$75,000 + depending on qualifications Working Conditions
