Required Experience

Job Summary Payroll Specialist is responsible for performing daily payroll operations, including multistate payroll processing, for approximately 9,000+ employees across the South Division cluster. Position is high volume and requires keen organizational skills, strong attention to detail, accuracy, and excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accurate and timely multistate payroll processing using Workday ensuring compliance with state, federal, and local requirements.

Ensuring timely submission of wage attachments (child support orders, tax levies, garnishments, etc.).

Process manual checks, special pays, gross-ups, and corrections/adjustments. Some manual calculations may be required.

Maintain payroll records and filing administration according to internal department practices.

Facilitate strong customer service relationships with both internal and external customers.

Respond to service tickets and answer routine telephone inquiries concerning payroll issues in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Assists accounting staff in research and resolution of payroll related transactions, including outstanding payroll checks.

Provide support to peers/leadership as needed; timely feedback to manager, supervisor, and customers.

Assist in process improvement projects and other initiatives as assigned by the Payroll Manager.

Adhere to internal control processes when initiating, recording, summarizing and reporting payroll transactions.

Actively participate in payroll year-end activities as assigned.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

H.S. diploma or equivalent

Minimum 3 years payroll experience (preferably with Workday)

Must have multi-state experience

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, with Vlookup knowledge

Thorough knowledge of office/clerical practices, procedures, and equipment.

Excellent organization, documentation and follow-up skills.

Ability to communicate effectively with associates.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, employees, and officials in other departments.

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to request clarification when needed.

Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects and work under deadlines.

Must have a strong attention to detail.

Utilize the utmost discretion in the handling of confidential information

Preferred Qualifications

Workday experience a plus

Basic knowledge of accounting a plus

FPC/CPP is a plus
