Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti‑poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey, and Westchester County including emergency, transitional, and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.
Position: Financial Assistant/Case Manager The Financial Assistant/Case Manager Specialist ensures that each client obtains entitlements clearance at intake and that resident’s benefits are maintained for eligibility. The position will ensure that each TFA package has all the required documentation to assess Veterans’ eligibility for Financial Assistance. It also assists veterans through the process and helps them obtain the needed documentation to determine their eligibility. The role requires effective and sensitive communication with both clients and staff and a particular attunement to the client’s varied and changing abilities to navigate the often difficult and complex TFA process.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s Degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience in Finance, HRA Public Assistance, Supplemental Social Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), service‑connected and/or non‑service‑connected veteran’s disability claims application process, VA benefit and regulations.
Demonstrated experience in effective communication, proficient computer skills, organization, and multitasking.
Financial Assistant / Case Manager Principal Responsibilities
Review Temporary Financial Assistance Package for all veterans, submit the TFA package to the business office and accounts payable for review and approval.
Maintain and update the TFA log.
Deliver and pick up TFA checks to the landlord and third‑party vendors.
Work with program, business office, and accounts payable to ensure timely disbursement of TFA funds.
