City of Kalamazoo
Under general direction, is responsible for processing of Utility accounts and billing, and for monitoring the collection of delinquent accounts; performs related work as required. The employee in this position will be responsible for work involving performance of processing of Utility billings, developing and maintaining complex, accurate water and sewer billing records, account-keeping, cashiering, updating customer accounts; collection activities, bankruptcies, tax liens, and required legal procedures; requires the ability to check the condition of accounts, auditing, or related tasks.
Process new accounts, creating billing items
Create and process water and sewer bills
Processes Penalties, send Reminder and Final Notices
Update customers account records
Updating work orders
Creating delinquent orders
Verifies, analyzes accounts and assures proper billings
Conducts special investigations
Researches billing errors or omissions and calculates adjustments
Makes field inspections as needed
Prepares and sends letters to customers referencing various meter problems
Operates BS&A UB software, calculator, cash register
Considerable knowledge of Utility billing and collection policies and procedures
Good knowledge of accounting and billing systems
Basic knowledge of accounting procedures
Ability to carry out complex oral and written directions;
Working skill in data gathering and recordkeeping
Ability to accurately perform in a fast pace, high volume work environment
Three years account-keeping experience
Customer service work
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Familiarity with the water and wastewater distribution and collection operations
Minimum of three years' experience in an organization involving customer contact and correspondence
Or any combination of training and experience which provides the essential knowledge and skills
An in-house written test will also be provided for this position.
