About the Team The Finance Team at Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) is responsible for managing critical financial functions essential to the organization’s mission. This includes overseeing budgeting, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, cash management, treasury operations, tax compliance, audit preparations, and financial analysis. Collaborating closely with other departments, the finance team ensures financial sustainability, transparency, and accountability in delivering affordable housing solutions to communities in need.

About the Job The Senior Corporate Accountant plays a central leadership and execution role within the Corporate Accounting team. Reporting directly to the Controller, this position is responsible for managing high‑level accounting operations, executing and reviewing complex reconciliations, treasury activities, preparing financial statements, making tax payments, managing tax extensions, assisting with the annual audit and leading the month‑end close process. In addition to preparing financial reports, the Senior Corporate Accountant provides training and developmental support to the Corporate Accountant ensuring efficient and accurate financial execution in alignment with AHC’s goals and standards.

Responsibilities

Prepares and reviews monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and cash basis, as required.

Performs and oversees complex account reconciliations, including intercompany accounts, restricted funds, prepaid balances, and accruals.

Manages general ledger operations for AHC and related entities (e.g., GBAHC, GP entities), ensuring timely and accurate posting of journal entries.

Leads the month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensuring deadlines are met and all entries and schedules are complete and accurate.

Performs monthly expense allocation for AHC, GBAHC.

Tracks and reconciles donations, grants, and contributions, ensuring appropriate classification and supporting documentation.

Oversees treasury duties such as maintaining bank accounts list.

Leadership & Staff Oversight

Supervise, mentor, and review work performed by the Corporate Accountant and Accounts Payable Specialist.

Provide training and guidance on accounting standards, policies, and procedures to ensure consistency and adherence across the team.

Create a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the Corporate Accounting team.

Treasury Services & Internal Controls

Oversees daily cash monitoring and liquidity tracking across AHC bank accounts.

Coordinates and approves wire transfers, weekly check runs, and capital call activities.

Monitors bank balances and supports the Controller with short‑term cash planning and forecasting.

Ensures internal controls are followed and assists in updating accounting procedures and documentation.

Audit & Tax Compliance

Maintains accounting files in an organized and efficient manner.

Updates the master banking list and treasury procedures quarterly.

Enters wires in the treasury system for review and execution by the Controller and CFO.

Collaborates with Real Estate, Development, and Pre‑Development teams to ensure consistent and accurate financial tracking across departments.

Supports project‑based financial needs, such as cost allocations, funding reconciliations, and interdepartmental transactions.

Leads or participates in strategic initiatives and process improvement projects assigned by the Controller or CFO.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA a plus.

8+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience including supervisory duties; real estate or affordable housing experience strongly preferred.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with MIP and/or Yardi highly desirable.

Deep understanding of GAAP and fund accounting principles.

Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem‑solving skills.

Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Demonstrated leadership and staff development experience.

High attention to detail and financial reporting accuracy.

Ability to perform complex account reconciliations and close processes independently.

Collaborative mindset with a commitment to accuracy, improvement, and accountability.

Working at AHC

AHC has a Hybrid Work Schedule with staff working onsite on our core days (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday). Staff may work remotely on Wednesday and Friday.
