Vineyard Advisors & CPAs, PLLC
Tax Associate
Company: Vineyard Advisors & CPAs, PLLC
Reports to: Tax Director / Senior Manager
Target Hire Timeline: Immediate – Q4 2025
About Us Vineyard Advisors & CPAs, PLLC (VA) is a Southlake, Texas‑based professional services firm serving closely held businesses, entrepreneurs, and high‑net‑worth (“HNW”) families through integrated tax, accounting, and financial advisory services. We are intentionally building toward a multi‑family office (“MFO”), where tax strategy intersects with estate planning, capital advisory, fractional CFO services, and alternative investment platforms.
At our core, we’re a faith‑driven firm that values integrity, humility, and client‑centered service. We believe in building long‑term relationships with both our clients and our team—and we’re looking for professionals who share this vision.
The Opportunity We are adding a
Tax Associate
to support our growing client base of closely held businesses and high‑net‑worth families. This role is designed for a professional who takes tax seriously, understands its foundational importance, and wants to build broader accounting and business judgment over time.
This is a
tax‑first role year‑round , with expanded accounting and advisory exposure during non‑peak periods as capacity and client demand allow.
How the Work is Structured This role follows a seasonally weighted but tax‑centric structure:
January–April (Primary Filing Season):
Focused almost exclusively on tax preparation and compliance.
May–July (Post‑Season / Shoulder Period):
Tax work continues based on demand (extensions, amended returns, planning). During periods of available capacity, the role expands to include general accounting and advisory support.
November–January (Planning & Preparation):
A mix of tax planning, compliance preparation, accounting assistance, and process improvement.
Tax remains the priority throughout the year; accounting and advisory exposure is intentional, additive, and introduced progressively based on demonstrated tax proficiency and capacity.
Primary Responsibilities (Tax)
Prepare federal and state tax returns for individuals and closely held businesses (Forms 1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065)
Review financial records and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness
Communicate directly with clients to gather information and resolve open items
Identify tax issues, deductions, and planning opportunities and elevate them appropriately
Maintain organized, high‑quality workpapers
Assist with tax notices and correspondence under supervision
Stay current on tax law changes affecting clients.
Secondary Responsibilities (Accounting & Advisory Exposure) As capacity and client demand allow:
Assist with general ledger reviews, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
Support outsourced accounting, controller, and fractional CFO engagements
Participate in client discussions related to cash flow, profitability, and operational performance
Develop an understanding of how financial information supports business decisions
Support advisory projects under the direction of senior team members.
Who This Role Is For This role is a good fit if you:
Have 3+ years of professional tax preparation experience
View tax as a long‑term discipline, not a stepping stone to avoid
Are curious about how businesses operate beyond the tax return
Want to grow into roles such as Senior Associate, Manager, Controller, CFO, or advisory leadership over time
Value mentorship, accountability, and doing work carefully
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in public accounting or professional tax preparation
Experience preparing individual and small business tax returns
Familiarity with tax preparation software (CCH Axcess preferred)
Exposure to accounting systems such as QuickBooks or similar is helpful
Strong attention to detail and professional judgment
Clear written and verbal communication skills
CPA candidates are strongly encouraged (CPA or EA licensure a plus, not required).
What This Role Is Not
Not a seasonal tax preparer role
Not a fast‑track management position
Not a pure accounting role
Not a sales or business development role
Growth is real here, but it is earned through competence, consistency, and trust.
Ethos We are grounded in the principles of servant leadership, as described by Robert Greenleaf. At VA, we believe in putting others first, listening, building trust, and delivering advice that honors both financial and human capital. Our advisors operate at the intersection of competence and compassion, helping families build wealth intentionally and steward it meaningfully.
