About the Opportunity A leading engineering and consulting organization is seeking a strategic Controller to lead accounting operations and enhance financial accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This role is a key partner to senior leadership, supporting financial strategy within a project‑based, ACEC‑aligned consulting environment. The ideal candidate brings strong FAR compliance and project accounting expertise.
The Role The Controller will oversee the full accounting function while partnering closely with the CFO and leadership team. This role manages reporting, compliance, internal controls, indirect rates, and audits, while supporting project managers and leading a high‑performing accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all accounting operations including billing, A/R, A/P, GL, payroll, cost accounting, and revenue recognition.
Manage timely month‑end and year‑end close processes.
Ensure compliance with FAR, GAAP, and industry regulations.
Oversee internal and external audits and serve as primary auditor contact.
Support the CFO with financial strategy, planning, and risk management.
Prepare financial reporting for executive leadership and the Board.
Lead, develop, and mentor the accounting team.
Partner with project managers on budgeting, forecasting, job costing, and profitability.
Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Manage indirect cost rates and overhead submissions to agencies.
Collaborate with HR and operations on payroll, benefits, and tax compliance.
Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
Experience within engineering, architecture, or environmental consulting.
Strong knowledge of project accounting, FAR, and indirect rate calculations.
Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex accounting functions.
