Salary Grade: 20
– Salary Range: $61,009 – $98,224.
FLSA: Exempt
Purpose of Classification The purpose of this classification is to manage the daily operations of a county golf course or tennis center including overseeing regular and volunteer staff, course/court operations, pro shop and clubhouse operations, driving range operations, golf cart and cart barn maintenance, financial accounting, marketing and contractor oversight.
Essential Functions
Manages and evaluates assigned staff; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; addresses employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; manages work; acts as liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities to meet objectives; ensures subordinates have proper resources needed to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provides technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with revisions to procedure manuals as appropriate.
Coordinates facility use; maintains master calendar; schedules facility rentals; prepares for scheduled events; sets up meeting rooms; prepares course or courts; decorates for special events; maintains related documentation; and opens and closes facility.
Ensures maintenance of center; conducts regular inspections of facility; schedules required maintenance and repairs for facility; and supervises cleanliness of building.
Manages daily operations of golf or tennis facility including pro shop and clubhouse operations, driving range operations, golf cart fleet care and maintenance, and property and building security.
Monitors and ensures appropriate maintenance and upkeep of golf course or tennis courts, grounds and clubhouse to provide for safety and enjoyment of guests.
Establishes and enforces golf/tennis operations rules, regulations, policies, procedures to deliver effective operations and services for public.
Communicates with patrons to ensure quality customer service is provided by golf/tennis, pro shop, and clubhouse personnel; performs general customer service and administrative duties as required; receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints of citizens regarding programs, policies and/or personnel.
Maintains accurate inventories of equipment and supplies; shop merchandise, daily receipts from rounds of golf/tennis games and personal property inventory.
Books tournaments and provides information regarding green fees, cart rentals, starting times, course or court availability, etc.
Plans, organizes and promotes golf/tennis youth camps, lessons, tournaments and other related programs, events and contests that serve all community members.
Utilizes golf/tennis operations related software, e.g., point of sale systems, activity management systems, and inventory software to record and maintain financial and operational records.
Develops and manages annual operating budget and operational work plan; reviews past performances and forecasts to ensure all financial goals are met per established guidelines, policies and procedures; and oversees controls and fee structures for safekeeping of assets, inventory and resources.
Develops public relations program; and promotes, coordinates and administers marketing plans using social media, radio, print media and emails to ensure golf or tennis operations profitability.
Oversees performance of golf course or tennis court maintenance, with contractors via meetings and regular inspection tours to enforce compliance with established maintenance standards for care and upkeep of the center.
Coordinates with food and beverage contractor for all food and beverage needs including food and service quality, on-course food and beverage service, banquets, outside events and catering for all functions.
Schedules staff meetings to address issues regarding customers, operations, revenue growth, cost containment and continuous improvement; and attends leadership meetings with center counterpart and food and beverage contractor to enable proper communication, collaboration and teamwork.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Parks & Recreation, Recreation Management, Hospitality Management or a related field required; five years experience in golf or tennis operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
