Overview Join Orange County Water District as a

Grounds Maintenance Technician . This standalone position requires entry‑level, semi‑skilled activities to maintain district grounds.

Responsibilities

Mow lawns, trim shrubs, and mulch flower beds using mowing equipment, skid steer deck mower, weed whacker, and trimmers.

Repair damaged fencing.

Establish and maintain irrigation systems: set time clocks, connect electrical wires, monitor and repair sprinklers and lines, and ensure proper sprinkler rotation.

Control weeds and unwanted vegetation by line trimmer, spraying pesticides, and/or light tractor.

Operate heavy equipment such as skid steer and backhoe to dig mainlines and valves; use forklift to transport equipment.

Net and remove dead fish from lakes, distribute chemicals (lime) to eliminate heavy odors from decaying fish.

Rake and clean debris from trash racks and gates; clean and maintain drains on properties.

Follow all workplace and job safety rules and policies.

Perform other duties of similar nature as required.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. A Qualified Applicators License or Certificate is highly desired.

Valid California Class “C” Driver’s License.

One year of related grounds maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques, pesticide application principles, lawn care principles, irrigation system design and maintenance principles, safe work practices, and fence repairs.

Ability to perform landscape maintenance duties, troubleshoot irrigation systems, trim trees, use applicable lawn care machinery and equipment, apply pesticides and chemicals, and communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.

Physical Demands Positions require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly. Outdoor field setting; heavy equipment operation; hand tools; verbal communication.

Benefits & EEO 9/80 schedule – 6:30 am to 4:00 pm; alternating Fridays off. EOE.
