The Histology Lab Operator I is a member of the Histopathy Department responsible for assisting HT/HTLs in analyzing specimens and maintaining equipment in good condition.

Primary Responsibilities

Assists certified/licensed personnel in clinical patient testing in accordance with the SOP

Perform histological preparations for the tissue whole exome sequencing laboratory with little to no errors

Duties may include but not limited to: preparation of tissues, stained slides, macrodissection and supporting workflow tasks

Sets up equipment and assists with automated lab procedures, as applicable

Assist and complete daily tasks

Maintains equipment and instruments in good operating condition

Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies, and equipment in the laboratory for the performance of duties

Documents information accurately and in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP)

Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

0-2 years of experience

An associate's, or higher, degree in a histotechnician program OR an associate's degree, or higher, in one of the chemical or biological sciences AND one year of experience and/or training in histology within the past 5 years OR completion of a course of training of at least nine months in a histotechnician program OR a bachelor's, or higher, degree in one of the chemical or biological sciences, including a combination of thirty (30) hours in biology and chemistry; and either one of the following conditions:

one year of experience and/or training in histology within the past 5 years

completion of a course of training of at least nine months in a histotechnician program

A copy of the degree is required at the time of hire; the degree must either be from the US or equivalent to a US degree

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent interpersonal, communication, computer, and technical skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Word processing and data management

Ability to work well in a group

Adhere to the department's time and attendance guidelines

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Duties typically performed in BSL-2 laboratory with potentially hazardous material

Standing or sitting for long periods of time may be necessary

Duties may require working weekends and overtime

Must be able to lift boxes or supplies up to 35 lbs.

Duties require wearing safety goggles, gloves, and laboratory coat.

Duties require exposure to cold air due to frequent accessing of refrigeration and/or freezer units.

Repetitive hand motion may be necessary

Compensation & Total Rewards This range reflects a good-faith estimate of the base pay we reasonably expect to offer at the time of hire. Final compensation will vary based on experience, qualifications, and skills considerations.

Compensation Range: $23.06 - $34.60 USD
