Job Description and Duties Under general direction of the Office Chief, Traffic Safety, the incumbent performs supervisory engineering technical work related to traffic safety functions and does other work as required. The incumbent is responsible for the northern counties within District 10: San Joaquin, Alpine, Calaveras, Amador.

Responsibilities include:

Providing technical direction and leadership for traffic safety projects.

Developing and implementing policies and procedures for traffic safety.

Managing and supervising engineering staff and contractors.

Ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Conducting site visits and assessments.

Preparing reports and recommendations for management.

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

Possession of a valid driver’s license when operating a state‑owned or leased vehicle.

Provide an example of a challenging project where you worked with external stakeholders (such as local agencies, CHP, or community groups). What was your role, and how did you help move the project forward?

What long‑term improvements or focus areas would you prioritize to strengthen District 10’s traffic safety program, and why?

What is your understanding of the Safe System Approach, and do you have any experience applying these principles in your work? Please provide an example if applicable.
