Job Summary PetSmart’s Process Leader (Retail Operations Manager) shares responsibility for merchandising, inventory management, and pet‑care operations while ensuring a safe, organized environment. Essential Responsibilities People Leadership
Participates in employment decisions such as recruiting, interviewing, and coaching.
Facilitates associate development and training, onboarding, labor management, mentoring, succession planning, and coaching.
Addresses associate complaints and grievances.
Prioritizes, delegates, and validates daily tasks to meet business and pet‑parent needs.
Coaches staff on operational processes to protect pet safety and health.
Coordinates staffing for pet‑care, maintenance, hotel, and salon areas.
Validates completion of assigned operational messages and compliance videos.
Communicates company information and priorities to staff for alignment.
Recognizes and celebrates associate engagement.
Overall Store Experience
Oversees healthcare of store‑owned pets, including maintenance, new pet intake, feeding, and sick pet care.
Provides oversight of inventory accuracy, receiving, stocking, inventory counts, product rotations, and planograms.
Seeks continuous improvement opportunities for store services.
Maintains vendor relationships, backroom standards, and communication boards.
Manages Buy Online, Pick Up In‑Store, and Ship From Store programs.
Analyzes sales trends and merchandising activities.
Makes merchandising decisions on space and discontinued merchandise.
Ensures compliance with Policies & Procedures and Code of Ethics.
Maintains a safe environment for associates, pets, and pet parents.
Takes action and reports when a sick or injured pet is identified.
Collaborates on store opening and closing procedures to uphold brand promises.
Expense Management
Drives business growth and holds associates accountable to store P&L goals (sales and shrink targets).
Analyzes inventory reports to identify trends and root causes.
Manages labor, supply, and other store expense metrics.
Coordinates with Home Office partners on store work orders and purchase card allocation.
Qualifications
3+ years of retail leadership or customer‑focused experience.
Full‑time availability with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Proficiency with computer applications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to remain calm under pressure.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for store layout.
Supervisory Responsibility
Typically oversees up to 3 lead associates and up to 40 non‑lead associates.
Responsible for employment decisions and associate development.
Essential Physical Demands & Work Environment
Requires standing, walking, climbing, and handling objects; frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional team lifts above 100 pounds.
Exposed to moving mechanical parts, a wet environment with pet hair, moderate to high noise levels, and live animals.
