Scope of Work The City of Midland is seeking a dependable and motivated Street Maintenance Worker to help maintain and improve our streets, alleys, and drainage systems. You will perform hands‑on tasks such as patching potholes, sealing cracks, cleaning inlets, maintaining flow lines, and installing storm sewer pipes. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys outdoor work, operates equipment, and works well in a team. On‑the‑job training is provided; no prior experience is required.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance and/or construction on streets, alleys, right-of-ways, drainage channels, and related assets.
Patch streets/alleys with hot or cold mix asphalt; crack seal; clean inlets; maintain flow lines; pick up litter; mow/trim weeds; set storm sewer pipe; assist with storm water pump maintenance.
Perform daily preventative maintenance of motorized equipment or hand tools.
Attend safety meetings monthly; conduct pre-trip/post-trip vehicle/equipment inspections; maintain safety and equipment records.
Maintain tools and equipment in safe condition; keep jobsite and vehicles neat; assist with work zone traffic control.
Fulfill on-call duties as outlined on Transportation’s on-call roster; assist with maintenance of Transportation’s building and grounds; assist other City divisions as needed.
Perform any related duties needed to complete projects.
Physical & Environmental Conditions Ability to sit, stand, and drive a vehicle to and from various work sites; exposure to seasonal temperatures, hazardous equipment, traffic, and high-volume vehicular zones; ability to lift working materials.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; no experience necessary.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge and experience in construction and maintenance of streets and underground drainage systems.
Knowledge of safety practices and hazards in work area.
Skill to operate light equipment and machinery.
Ability to understand and implement verbal and written instructions.
Ability to perform physical labor and comprehend written/ oral assignments.
Licenses & Certifications
Valid Class C Texas driver’s license.
