Summary The PACS Administrator manages the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and associated medical imaging technologies across Onvida Health. This role ensures reliable image acquisition, transmission, storage, and retrieval in support of clinical operations. The PACS Administrator collaborates with Radiology, IT, and vendor partners to ensure high system availability, compliance, and quality in medical imaging workflows.
Responsibilities
Administers and maintains the PACS environment to ensure performance, availability, and security. Manages system configuration, user access, and storage allocation. Performs routine monitoring and proactively addresses system alerts and capacity thresholds.
Coordinates imaging integration across multiple modalities and systems. Ensures seamless communication between PACS, Radiology Information System (RIS), EHR, and imaging devices. Manages DICOM interfaces, HL7 feeds, and structured reporting workflows.
Supports clinical teams in the use of PACS and related imaging tools. Responds to user requests, provides training, and resolves access or display issues. Ensures image availability during clinical emergencies and works closely with Radiologists and Technologists.
Leads PACS system upgrades, patches, and maintenance activities. Partners with vendors and internal teams to plan and implement changes without disrupting clinical workflows. Performs system validation and post-deployment testing.
Ensures regulatory compliance and retention policies for medical imaging data. Maintains audit trails, access logs, and encryption standards. Ensures image storage and backup processes meet HIPAA, FDA, and Joint Commission requirements.
Participates in incident response, service recovery, and on-call escalation for imaging systems. Responds promptly to critical system outages and coordinates timely restoration. Documents root cause and implements corrective actions.
Collaborates with clinical, biomedical, and IT stakeholders on imaging strategy and improvements. Supports image routing protocols, workflow optimization, and interoperability initiatives. Contributes to decisions related to enterprise imaging and vendor selection.
Documents system configurations, workflows, and standard operating procedures. Maintains technical documentation to support troubleshooting, training, and continuity of operations. Participates in knowledge transfer and cross-training within the team.
Minimum Requirements
Associate degree in Imaging Informatics, Computer Science, Radiologic Technology, or related field
Certification in Imaging Informatics (CIIP) preferred
3+ years of experience administering PACS or enterprise imaging systems
2+ years of experience supporting radiology or clinical imaging environments
Experience with vendor platforms such as Sectra, Philips, Fuji, Barco or GE preferred
