Junior Cyber Engineer

Location: North Charleston, SC

Overview Sev1Tech is seeking a Junior Cyber Engineer to support the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic (NIWC Atlantic) Expeditionary Enterprise Systems and Services (E2S2) Division. NIWC Atlantic provides design, acquisition, and sustainment services for Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC) Information Technology (IT) systems. In this role, the Junior Cyber Engineer will contribute to the architecture, engineering, and implementation of cybersecurity services that safeguard critical network infrastructures and data systems. The position focuses on north‑south and east‑west traffic analysis, active protection capabilities, and evolving defensive measures to strengthen cyber resilience across the enterprise.

Responsibilities

Support the architecture and engineering of cybersecurity services and solutions across multiple environments.

Assist in the design, configuration, and implementation of SIEM and NGFW technologies to secure and monitor data traffic.

Contribute to network traffic capture, storage, processing, and analysis to enhance visibility and threat detection.

Implement cybersecurity‑enabled products that enhance protection, detection, and visibility capabilities.

Participate in developing and integrating capabilities for SSL Break‑and‑Inspect of outbound communications.

Collaborate with senior engineers to design, document, and maintain cyber defense architectures aligned with mission objectives.

Active Top Secret Level Clearance (Requirement).

Five (5) years of Computerized System experience, including design, development, test and evaluation, network protocols, LAN administration fundamentals, and UNIX and Windows based operating systems.

Minimum Requirement

Azure Sentinel (SIEM) familiarity or hands‑on experience.

Gigamon for network traffic visibility and optimization.

NetFlow for flow‑based traffic analysis.

BDP‑CHAOS (USMC Big Data Platform for Cyber Information) experience with big data analytics in cyber defense environments.

Splunk or ElasticSearch for log aggregation, analysis, and visualization.

Palo Alto Networks for NGFW configuration, tuning, and management.

Experience or knowledge of SSL Break‑and‑Inspect for outbound communications is a plus.

Education & Certifications

High School Diploma or GED

Must be willing to travel up to 60 days per year, including multiple week‑long trips to CONUS and OCONUS locations in support of mission requirements.

Qualifications Individual shall be working towards the relevant certifications within one and a half year after assuming duties: Professional Software Engineering Master (PSEM)/ Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) or Microsoft role‑based certifications, Microsoft Certified Applicable Developer (MCAD), Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA), Red Hat Certification Program (RHCP), CISCO Certified Network Professional (CCNP), CISCO Certified Design Professional (CCDP), Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), VMWare Certified Professional (VCP), Cloud certifications, etc.
