THIS POSITION IS PENDING CONTRACT AWARD.
Mission Objectives The System Administrator supports the secure, stable, and resilient operation of critical Department of Defense (DoD) enterprise networks and IT infrastructure. Serving as a technical backbone for mission operations, this position is fundamental in sustaining high system availability, enabling continuous, secure mission delivery, and ensuring all networked environments meet federal security and operational standards across geographically distributed locations.
Position Responsibility Summary
Network and Systems Operations & Maintenance:
Perform daily administration, sustainment, and troubleshooting of networks, servers, workstations, virtual environments, and storage systems.
Maintain, optimize, and support LAN/WAN architectures, directory services, VPNs, virtual machines, and cloud-based services.
Execute software and hardware installations, upgrades, configuration changes, and patch management with minimal disruption to operations.
Utilize and manage backup and restoration solutions for disaster recovery and continuity of operations, supporting established RTO/RPO requirements.
Security & Compliance:
Implement and maintain security controls and system settings in strict accordance with DoD security policies, DISA STIGs, and RMF requirements.
Administer user accounts, permissions, group policies, and Identity and Access Management (IAM) to safeguard system integrity and data privacy.
Support the deployment and operation of firewalls, intrusion detection systems, antivirus/antimalware, and other network security appliances and tools.
Monitoring, Diagnostics & Performance Optimization:
Monitor system health, resource utilization, and performance using enterprise tools; proactively detect and contribute to the resolution of anomalies and incidents.
Analyze logs and event data; collaborate with cybersecurity, helpdesk, and engineering teams to resolve escalations and participate in root cause analysis for significant events.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain comprehensive, accurate system configuration, change, and inventory records for compliance and audit readiness.
Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical guides, and knowledge management artifacts to enable repeatable, high‑performing operations across all locations.
Continuous Improvement & Mission Support:
Identify, recommend, and implement opportunities for automation, technology upgrades, and process optimization.
Provide technical support to local and remote users, participate in on‑call/after‑hours rotations as needed to ensure 24/7 mission readiness.
Engage in information assurance, configuration management, and operational meetings.
Position Requirements
Experience:
Minimum of four (4) years of direct experience administering enterprise IT systems/networks in a DoD or comparably complex, high‑security environment.
Education and Credentials:
Education: High School Diploma
Certifications: Must possess a DoD 8570.01‑M IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, GSEC, CySA+, SSCP) at the time of hire and maintain throughout employment.
Clearance:
Active Secret clearance, at time of start and throughout employment.
Technical Proficiency:
Deep familiarity with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, server and desktop operating systems (Windows/Linux), and virtualization/cloud platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V, AWS/Azure).
Practical experience with user/group administration, file systems, directory services (Active Directory/LDAP), security controls, and system hardening.
Working knowledge of backup/recovery solutions, patch management, diagnostic tools, remote support utilities, system integration/OSI model, and troubleshooting methods.
Security & Compliance:
Demonstrated ability to comply with DISA STIGs, DoD security frameworks, and RMF processes.
Knowledge of access control, PKI, encryption standards, and incident response procedures.
Soft Skills:
Strong organizational, documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize, adapt, and respond flexibly in a dynamic, mission‑focused operational setting.
Location:
Able to work full‑time onsite in Dam Neck, VA; able to support geographically dispersed networks as required.
Optional/Value‑Added Qualifications
Experience supporting large‑scale DoD or federal enterprise migrations and modernization.
Familiarity with advanced automation/orchestration tools or enterprise monitoring solutions.
Experience with scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) for system administration tasks.
Education: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
Certifications/Training: Microsoft, Linux+, AWS/Azure specialty certs, ITIL v4 Foundation, VMware or cloud‑specific professional certification.
Additional Details Duty Location: Dam Neck, VA
Work Arrangement: Onsite (no remote work authorized unless approved in writing by the Government)
Travel Requirements: Up to 10%
