Position Quality Manager – Evadale, TX.

Opportunity Serve as the interface between the Evadale Board Mill and its customers, driving continuous improvement through root‑cause investigations, corrective action implementation, and technical communication. Lead investigations of customer complaints, generate and analyze reports, provide technical assistance, conduct plant audits, and support the WestRock Packaging business segment.

Responsibilities

Understands and enforces mill safety policies and procedures. Ensures that all employees are aware of and adhere to safety policies, procedures and JHAs.

Ensures timely completion of accident/incident investigations as needed.

Actively promotes and participates in the Mill’s safety programs/processes.

Conducts routine safety audits of employees to ensure compliance and give proper feedback.

Direct supervisor of the Quality Assurance Department, including oversight of the Paper Testing labs. Responsible for communicating procedures and quality needs/expectations to appropriate personnel.

Responsible for ensuring that training needs of subordinates are met and for setting goals and operating budgets.

Oversees distribution and control of specifications by which product is produced, including grade codes.

Coordinates analysis of product properties and compliance with specifications.

Responsible for ensuring the customer requirements are known.

Coordinates final disposition on product after the winder (returns from field, hold paper, quality issues found after the fact) in conjunction with TSS/Operations.

Oversight for the Product Recall/Withdrawal systems for product. Coordinates annual mock drill testing.

Works on customer‑related issues that require a change in the way products are tested, inspected, or measured.

Leads routine quality review meetings or designee.

Leads the ISO 9001 compliance and Quality support functions. Serves as or appoints management representative for ISO 9001.

Participates in external/internal audits and management reviews for Quality and Food Safety.

Serves as or appoints a Food Safety Team Leader to maintain and improve Food Safety systems for Evadale Mill and assists with Silsbee Extruder as needed.

Management/oversight of all quality related systems within Lotus Notes, such as MOC, Holds, Spec Change, P/CAR, Agreed to Specifications with customers.

Investigate field complaints to perform root cause and corrective action assessment and generate technical responses to customers and/or Smurfit WestRock’s Commercial, TS&Q and CQC teams.

Partner with appropriate mill personnel to help implement corrective actions necessary to prevent recurrence of quality issues.

Provide accurate and timely service, audit, quality, and technical consultation.

Provide support and assistance for engineering/design improvements and changes.

Coordinate correspondence between Evadale Mill and WestRock’s Commercial, TS&Q and CQC teams and/or customers regarding product quality, COA’s and related information.

Generate, analyze, and report on Evadale’s quality complaint statistics to help mill personnel identify trends and areas for continued improvement.

Daily/Weekly monitoring of process data and overall machine cleanliness/physical conditions.

Responsible for conducting business with integrity and respect, being accountable, and actively pursuing excellence to help achieve Smurfit WestRock’s Path to One goal.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Pulp & Paper Science or Engineering preferred, with consideration also given to candidates with extensive work experience in the pulp and paper industry.

Strong statistical, analytical, and diagnostic problem‑solving skills.

Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Minitab. Knowledge of SAP is a plus.

Good verbal and written communication skills for dealing with diverse audiences.

Strong work ethic and desire to improve systems and processes.

Field service and professional work experience of 5+ years.

Knowledge of paperboard quality characteristics.

Experience with sheeting processes and equipment.

Experience with die cutting and folding/gluing processes and equipment.

Supervisory experience with a printing or converting operation a plus.
