Role Description D2S is currently seeking a full‑time on‑site System Administrator in

Fort George G. Meade, MD . The System Administrator will be responsible for managing and maintaining IT systems, performing routine system updates and backups, monitoring system performance, and providing technical support. They will collaborate with clients to ensure reliable system operations and address any issues to meet their cybersecurity and infrastructure needs.

Required Qualifications

Must be a US citizen

Must hold an Active Security Clearance: TS/SCI

Must have a Full Scope Polygraph (Lifestyle)

Work is strictly on‑site in Maryland; no hybrid or remote work is available at this time

Willing to commute and/or preferably living in or near the greater MD, DC, VA area

Required Skills

Operating Systems Expertise: Proficiency in Linux/Unix (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu) and Windows Server environments

Advanced knowledge of shell scripting (e.g., Bash, PowerShell) for automation

Network Administration: Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, routing, and firewall management. Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds)

Virtualization and Cloud Technologies: Expertise in virtualization platforms like VMware, Hyper‑V, and KVM. Proficiency in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, including cloud networking, security, and cost management

Server Management and Configuration: Advanced skills in managing and configuring servers (e.g., Apache, Nginx, IIS). Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack)

Storage and Backup Solutions: Knowledge of SAN, NAS, RAID, and networked storage protocols (e.g., NFS, SMB). Experience with backup and recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, CommVault, NetBackup)

Security Management: Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and security monitoring. Experience with security policies, patch management, vulnerability assessments, and remediation

Monitoring and Performance Tuning: Proficiency in using monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk) to maintain system performance and uptime. Experience with capacity planning and performance tuning of systems and networks

High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Experience with designing, implementing, and maintaining high‑availability clusters and failover systems. Knowledge of disaster recovery planning, testing, and implementation

Database Administration: Basic to intermediate knowledge of database management and optimization (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle)

Automation and Scripting: Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, Perl, Ruby) for task automation and orchestration. Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation

DevOps and CI/CD Pipelines: Understanding of DevOps principles and experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Bamboo). Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)

Documentation and Compliance: Ability to create and maintain detailed documentation for systems, processes, and procedures. Knowledge of compliance standards (e.g., ITIL, ISO, GDPR, HIPAA)

Soft Skills: Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills. Effective communication and collaboration with cross‑functional teams. Ability to mentor junior staff and provide training on system administration best practices

Preferred Skills

Cloud Computing: Proficiency with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including experience with IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS

Networking: Deep understanding of network protocols, VPNs, firewalls, and load balancers, including troubleshooting and optimization

Security: Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, including risk assessment, encryption, and compliance standards

Automation & Scripting: Proficiency in automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Terraform) and scripting languages like Python, PowerShell, or Bash

Virtualization: Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper‑V, or KVM

Operating Systems: Advanced knowledge of Linux/Unix and Windows Server environments

Problem‑Solving: Excellent analytical skills to diagnose and resolve complex system issues

Project Management: Ability to lead and manage projects, including task prioritization, resource allocation, and deadline management

Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with technical teams and stakeholders

DevOps Practices: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control (e.g., Git), and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)

Disaster Recovery & Backup: Experience in designing and implementing backup solutions and disaster recovery plans

Performance Monitoring: Proficiency in using monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Prometheus) to ensure system performance and uptime
