Job Description
The Human Resources Applications organization supports, develops, and integrates application software systems and enterprise data used by the Payroll Office and Division of Human Resources (HR) at Virginia Tech. With a strong focus on technology, efficiency, collaboration, and integration, the Human Resources Applications team provides administrative solutions for Virginia Tech employees.
As an Application Analyst, you will:
Analyze HR and Payroll business processes and systems
Partner with HR and Payroll staff to support the design, testing, and implementation of solutions that solve business challenges
Apply technical skills to support systems, integrations, reporting, and troubleshooting
Document procedures and ensure clear communication across stakeholders
Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with colleagues
Work independently with minimal supervision

Required Qualifications
Master’s degree or equivalent training and related work experience
Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to analyze business processes
Strong understanding of HR and Payroll processes
Familiarity with relational databases with the ability to write and interpret SQL queries
Experience in creating and maintaining relationships with a variety of stakeholders
Effective teamwork and collaboration skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences
Preferred Qualifications
Working experience with ERP, HRIS or Payroll systems
Working experience with higher education HR and Payroll practices, applications, and integrations
Working experience with APIs, integrations, or low‑code/no‑code platforms such as Boomi
Working experience with the software development lifecycle and integration development
Working experience with programming languages such as Java, Groovy, .NET, or PL/SQL and/or reporting tools such as SAS, SQR, or MicroStrategy
Working experience using web application frameworks such as Angular or React
Overtime Status Exempt: Not eligible for overtime
Appointment Type Regular
Salary Information 78,000 – 85,000
Hours per week 40
