Job Description and Duties The Supervising Special Investigator I works under the direction of the Supervising Special Investigator II (Regional Supervising Investigator) to organise and supervise a staff of Special Investigators and other support staff in the Investigation Division’s regional office. Core responsibilities include:
Plan, coordinate, and participate in complex fraud investigations.
Oversee investigative activities and manage timelines for case completion.
Collaborate with legal, compliance, and external partners to ensure effective enforcement.
Maintain knowledge of relevant statutes, case law and CDI investigative procedures.
Prepare investigative reports and briefing materials for senior leadership.
Conduct field visits, interviews, and site inspections as required.
Ensure compliance with the Conflict of Interest Code, including timely filing of Statements of Economic Interest.
Adhere to Personal Leave Program (PLP 2025) guidelines and report accordingly.
Special Investigator Qualifications
Constitutional, penal, and investigative law knowledge as per California Penal Code 830.11 and 832 – Arrest course.
Experience managing investigative teams and complex cases.
Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
Background check and fingerprinting required.
Eligibility for the state civil service examination (list/LEAP) or appropriate alternate eligibility.
