Purpose To conduct transportation‑related research within the Center for Transportation Research (CTR).

Responsibilities

Assist in management of research on funded projects in the fields of pavement and materials engineering and testing, pavement management, and data integration.

Perform experimental testing in a laboratory as needed.

Actively search for new research opportunities and lead the development of proposals, or participate on a proposal development team with assigned writing tasks.

Conduct literature reviews, perform original research and/or participate on a research team under the general direction of a research supervisor; work directly with other researchers and students to support pavement materials engineering and testing, pavement management, and other relevant tasks.

Work with large transportation‑related databases; integrate data from local and web‑based sources and develop a centralized, relational database to meet project requirements.

Develop reports and presentations and prepare professional papers and journal articles.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

Four years of related experience.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience writing proposals and working with faculty, researchers, and Graduate Research Assistants to accomplish study objectives.

Graduate degree in civil engineering.

More than four years of work experience.

Experience working with transportation agencies.

Experience working with asphalt materials and pavement design.

Proficient in working with relational databases and SQL.

Demonstrated experience with programming languages such as Python.

Salary Range $60,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

May work around standard office and laboratory conditions.

Most work will be conducted in office and laboratory located at CTR or the UT School of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering (CAEE).

Work may require conducting field studies to obtain data, working at research sponsors facilities to access records, reports, and electronic data, and meeting with research sponsor staff to obtain information about proposed tools, processes, and methods.

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation or personal computer.

Occasional weekend or evening work; work under stress independently or with peers to complete assigned work by deadline schedules.

Occasional local, state, or national travel to attend meetings and make presentations.
