Personal Financial Counselor, Assignment Ready Counselor, PFC-Northern Virginia Magellan Federal is seeking a dedicated Personal Financial Counselor to provide full‑stream financial counseling services to military service members and their families at Northern Virginia installations. The role covers short‑term, surge, and on‑demand needs arising from deployment or other military requirements.

Responsibilities

Provide one‑on‑one personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and their families.

Assist service members in establishing spending plans for extended absences.

Develop and circulate informational financial materials.

Coordinate, publicize, and deliver a wide variety of Personal Financial Management classes and workshops covering the military lifecycle, including pre‑ and post‑deployment and other career events.

Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.

Utilize virtual counseling or other electronic communication methods (web‑based chat, video teleconference, secure platforms) as authorized by the OSD FINRED Program office.

Manage duty‑to‑warn situations according to Department of Defense protocol.

Communicate with leadership and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information about trends and issues at assigned installations.

Participate in regular in‑services, training, quality‑improvement committees, or other contract activities as assigned.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required (associate degree + 4 years experience or high school diploma + 6 years experience may be considered).

3+ years of financial counseling experience.

U.S. citizen and fluent English. Bilingual English/Spanish may be required by contract.

Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.

Must pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.

Certification required: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).

Job Details Grade: 23 Type: Part‑time Location: Northern Virginia (Fort Belvoir, Joint Base Andrews, etc.)

Salary and Benefits Base salary range: $53,125 – $84,995 per year. Eligibility for short‑term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package including health, life, voluntary and other benefits.
