Human Resources Generalist
Join United Power, Inc. as a Human Resources Generalist. The role coordinates employee training, development, recruitment programs, special projects, annual reports, and performs a wide variety of other human‑resources duties under the direction of the Human Resources Director. The position also manages the Human Resources Information System (HRIS), supports employee relations, and administers multiple HR programs.
Base pay range:
$84,500 /yr – $101,040 /yr
Position Purpose The HR Generalist works under the HR Director and is responsible for coordinating United Power’s employee training, development, and recruitment programs. The position also manages the HRIS, assists with employee relations, administers the tuition reimbursement program, manages badge issuance, coordinates temporary staffing and interns, and supports the apprenticeship program.
Essential Job Functions
Conduct needs assessments and focus groups to identify training and development improvement areas.
Plan, schedule, and coordinate training programs including sexual harassment, ethics, corporate policy, EEO, new supervisor, leadership, and cross‑training.
Maintain the HRIS: input employee data, verify records, generate standard reports, and provide end‑user documentation and training.
Recruit, screen, and interview candidates; consult with hiring managers to understand role requirements; administer reference checks, background checks, and physicals.
Schedule interviews, inform candidates of duties and compensation, and coordinate relocations when necessary.
Oversee the Employee Referral Program and maintain DOT files, medical certifications, and MVRs for CDL drivers.
Coordinate placement of temporary help, internships, and apprenticeship program administration.
Administer the employee tuition reimbursement program and conduct new employee orientation.
Assist in employee relations: handle discipline, conflict, grievance resolution, EAP program, and work‑life balance issues.
Interpret and administer HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with federal and local regulations including EEO, FMLA, and FLSA.
Maintain the affirmative action plan, employee handbook, and other department publications; complete regulatory reports such as EEO‑1 and VETS‑100.
Participate in special programs and events such as employee engagement activities and attend organization committees.
Build and maintain productive relationships with peers and stakeholders; foster a cooperative and inclusive workplace culture.
Secondary Job Functions
Represent United Power at external events such as career fairs and job expos.
Perform other duties as assigned to fulfill the needs of United Power.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
At least three years of progressive experience in a similar role with emphasis on employee training, development, or recruitment program administration.
Human Resources certification (SHRM‑HR or PHR) may substitute for education.
Preferred Qualifications
At least two years of experience as a Human Resources Specialist at United Power.
PHR or SHRM‑HR certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Extensive knowledge of current labor laws, recruiting and retention trends, affirmative action/EEO regulations, and training trends.
Ability to design and implement programs with limited supervision or direction.
Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
Strong written and oral communication skills and exceptional organizational skills.
Ability to react to change productively and perform other duties as directed by the Human Resources Director.
