Job Description An ambulance billing-coder is responsible for accurately coding and billing for ambulance services provided to patients, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and insurance requirements. This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of Medicare Part B Ambulance medical coding systems, and the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare providers and insurance companies.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Coding: Assign appropriate medical codes (e.g., CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS) to describe ambulance services, diagnoses, and procedures accurately.

Billing: Prepare and submit claims for ambulance services to insurance companies, Medicaid, Medicare, or other payers in a timely manner.

Verification: Verify patient insurance information and eligibility to determine coverage for ambulance services.

Documentation Review: Review patient medical records, transport documentation, and other relevant information to ensure accuracy in coding and billing.

Compliance: Stay updated on healthcare regulations, coding guidelines, and payer policies to ensure compliance and accurate reimbursement.

Queries: Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and coding-related queries, ensuring accurate coding and billing.

Data Entry: Accurately enter patient and billing information into the healthcare organization's billing system.

Customer Service: Assist patients and their families with billing inquiries, explain charges, and provide assistance in resolving billing issues.

You will be required to both make and receive client-related phone calls.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Knowledge of Medicare Part B Ambulance medical coding systems (e.g., CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS)

Experience with Traumasoft billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Understanding of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Problem-solve and analytical skills

Time management and organizational skills

Previous experience in Medicare Part B Ambulance medical coding and billing is necessary
