About the Role Work with other members of the quality team to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the plant in order to maximize operational efficiency in an environment of continuous improvement; provide timely and accurate process control information, ensure that all testing equipment is operating properly, and certify that the completed product meets intended specifications.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors on a daily basis.
Work in a team and function in a supporting role, taking directions from other team members in a collaborative environment.
Perform all responsibilities of a Quality Assurance Technician, including daily sample collection and testing of raw mix, kiln feed, clinker, cement, etc. per SOP guidance and applicable standards.
Conduct weekly raw materials and barge analyses of incoming materials at required intervals. Prepare cement composites for physical testing, and complete cement blends for customer samples when directed.
Apply a thorough understanding of the chemistry of raw materials and products to anticipate how elements and chemical changes affect the production process.
Utilize comprehensive knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, and API testing and calibration procedures and apply them appropriately.
Operate and perform routine maintenance and accuracy checks on testing equipment.
Calibrate equipment to ensure operations within designated parameters and maintain calibration records with the Quality Coordinator.
Maintain and repair laboratory testing equipment, leveraging mechanical aptitude; basic electrical troubleshooting is a plus.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree or minimum 3 years’ experience in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, or cement manufacturing.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Field of study: Science or equivalent industry experience.
3 years’ experience in quality control, quality assurance, or manufacturing.
Ability to work in an industrial environment with dust, heat, loud noise, etc.; experience in cement, mining, steel or similar industries is desirable.
Excellent mechanical aptitude, strong written and verbal communication, and high accuracy and attention to detail.
Demonstrated problem solving, decision making, multi‑tasking; composure in difficult situations; positive customer service attitude.
Self‑directed, effective prioritization, and strong teamwork.
Physical ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lb frequently, and occasionally up to 90 lb.
Adhere to all safety protocols and use approved Personal Protection Equipment, including respirators.
