Patient Experience Representative

We are looking for a Patient Experience Representative to join Open Cities Health Center. The role involves greeting patients, checking them in, verifying insurance, and ensuring a positive experience throughout their visit.
Summary Our Patient Experience Representatives are the first and last point of contact for patients, responsible for a comprehensive, patient‑focused front‑desk experience. They ensure accurate check‑in, update patient records, verify insurance, and coordinate with team members to provide excellent customer service.
Job Responsibilities
Greets patients and other visitors in person.
Checks patients into the EMR and verifies insurance and personal profile information.
Confirms and updates demographic information.
Collects co‑pays, sliding fee payments, and provides receipts to patients.
Posts co‑pays to the system daily as directed.
Prints billing tickets and visit labels.
Answers incoming calls.
Schedules appointments.
Demonstrates good written and verbal communication skills.
Maintains an orderly appearance of the reception and front‑desk areas.
Performs clerical duties assigned by the Front Desk Manager or Lead.
Attends meetings as required.
Ensures all patient records are current and updated in a timely manner.
Adheres to all HIPAA compliance standards.
Coordinates translators for patients.
Relays information to the appropriate people.
Escalates issues to management.
Sets up patients for the Sliding Fee program.
Sets up patients with a payment plan.
Responds to patient billing questions.
Directs patients to the MNSure navigator when applicable.
Intakes new patients.
Trains new staff on processes as instructed.
Completes additional duties, assignments, and projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bi‑lingual Spanish speaking preferred.
Familiar with medical terminology.
Confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
Medical billing and/or collection experience beneficial.
Strong attention to detail, flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork skills.
Computer skills: proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent.
Advanced degree a plus.
3+ years in patient registration or an equivalent field.
Medical terminology, medical billing, or related certificate preferred.
Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Ability to demonstrate effective, culturally sensitive communication skills and communicate verbally and in writing with a variety of people.
