Position Purpose The DC Area Supervisor leads an hourly team and influences the entire distribution team to do the fast‑paced work required to run the distribution center as efficiently, safely and productively as possible. This role handles management responsibilities for the team members under his or her supervision and ensures prompt, efficient and accurate handling of merchandise. The supervisor is responsible for hiring, evaluating, developing, disciplining, and terminating hourly associates, overseeing 20 to 30 associates.
Key Responsibilities
Managing Process:
Ensures all operations procedures are followed effectively, identifies and recommends needed changes, and evaluates current work methods to eliminate inefficiencies.
Coaching and Developing Associates:
Guides associates in daily operations, monitors productivity, safety, service, and quality, and provides training, coaching, and feedback. Performs regular evaluations and resolves associate relations issues.
Driving Results:
Maintains inventory accuracy and control, reviews reports, and identifies areas for improvement in key metrics such as productivity, accuracy, quality, and expenses.
Business Planning:
Coordinates and monitors operations to ensure production rates align with the business plan, reviews reports, and plans staffing needs for optimal department performance.
Additional responsibilities: Other duties as assigned by Operations Manager, Assistant General Manager, or General Manager.
Direct Manager / Direct Reports
This position typically reports to the Operations Manager.
Accountable for supervising work activities of others, planning, monitoring, and reviewing subordinates’ work. Responsible for recommendations on selection, termination, performance appraisal, and professional development.
Travel Requirements
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements
Requires intermittent periods of continuous physical exertion such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.
Working Conditions
Located in a comfortable indoor area; any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Flexibility to work various shifts.
Ability to relocate.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
Computer skills in software including Microsoft Office.
Experience with Warehouse Management Systems.
3+ years supervisory experience in a related field.
Minimum Education
High school diploma and/or GED.
