Position Summary This position will oversee the physical operation at one of the winter emergency shelter site locations and its residents during the overnight shift. It works closely with the supervisor, other coworkers, and volunteers and ensures that the supervisor is informed of any issues that may occur during the shift.
Program Weaver House Extension (WE) Winter Emergency Shelter Program
Reporting to Director of Case Management
Schedule Overnight shift: Sunday through Saturday, 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM (January 5 – March 31 2026). Hours and days may vary at the winter emergency shelter site location.
FLSA Status Part‑time, seasonal, non‑exempt; no supervisory responsibility.
Essential Functions
Ensure Weaver House Emergency Shelter policies and rules are followed consistently at the winter emergency site location.
Inform the Site Coordinator and Director of Case Management of any personnel, residents, or operational concerns that arise during the shift.
Assist volunteers with evening meals for residents and distribute breakfast/snack bags in the morning.
Respond compassionately, professionally, and firmly to winter emergency shelter residents by treating all residents with courtesy, dignity, and respect, avoiding profanity, and employing empathy and intervention skills.
Follow the specific church procedures to keep the winter emergency shelter site secure: conduct manual searches of bags, lock doors, set alarms, monitor building safety, and call police as necessary.
Other Functions
Be flexible to work as conditions deem necessary.
Carry out other duties as management may deem necessary.
Management may reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
Equipment Used
Computer, copier, telephone.
Working Conditions
Indoor shelter environment.
Some exposure to outdoor temperatures.
Requirements – Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field preferred.
Experience in human services preferred.
Other Requirements
Ability to work with individuals experiencing mental health, physical health, or substance abuse challenges in unexpected and stressful situations.
Physical ability to stand, walk, climb, sit, push, pull, see, hear, read, write, and problem‑solve.
Key Competencies
Excellent interpersonal communication skills (listening, written, verbal).
Ability to respond quickly and make sound decisions in unexpected situations with diverse clients.
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
