The Montgomery County Planning Department is seeking an experienced and innovative
Transportation Planner III
to lead the transportation element of master plans in the Transportation Planning Division. Montgomery Planning is one of the nation's leading transportation planning agencies, with a strong focus on complete streets, pedestrian, bicycle, and transit planning as well as Vision Zero. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for transportation planning, a strong work ethic, and a clear vision for how transportation planning can help Montgomery County achieve thriving, resilient communities for everyone, today and in the future. Responsibilities
Develop recommendations to expand and enhance roadways, bikeways, trail and pedestrian facilities, and transitways, applying multimodal and Vision Zero planning principles through master plans. Coordinate and conduct transportation field observations, analyze data, and conduct research to develop transportation recommendations for master plans. Coordinate with incorporated municipalities, county and state transportation agencies such as the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, the Maryland State Highway Administration, the Maryland Transit Administration, and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Administration. Participate in community meetings and explain transportation issues and recommendations to the public. Prepare detailed reports, presentations and staff reports on recommendations for sector plans, corridor plans, master plans and functional plans, transportation projects/initiatives, multimodal policies, among others. Represent the Department's positions at public hearings before the County Council and the Montgomery County Planning Board. Respond to inquiries from the general public on local and regional transportation questions and concerns. Qualifications
Considerable experience drafting master plan recommendations and proficient knowledge of the master plan and regulatory processes. Experience reviewing traffic and transportation studies and the ability to read and interpret roadway design and land use plans. Considerable experience and knowledge in multimodal and Vision Zero planning and design principles.
