GENERAL PURPOSE The Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store and for general operations and supervision when serving as Manager on Duty. Supervisors open and close the Store, supervise Associates, maintain a friendly, easy‑to‑shop environment, ensure proper merchandise presentation, and keep the work area clean. They also execute and supervise Company operational processes as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments

Safety is the number one priority; practice safe behaviors in everything you do.

Maintain high awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment. Immediately correct or report unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.

Secure the building: entrance/exit control, Electronic Article Surveillance daily function check, Cash Office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.

Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits.

Responsibility for customer safety: accident prevention, accident reporting, and emergency procedures.

Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.

Customer Service

Treat all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect.

Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times. Recognize associates using Company recognition programs.

Personal and Store Brand

Represent and support the Company brand at all times.

Maintain professional appearance, following the Company Dress Code. Ensure all associates adhere to the Dress Code.

Keep all areas of the Store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.

Responsible for daily trash removal.

General Merchandising

Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet Company standards through instruction, assignment, and follow‑up per best practice.

Assist with receiving merchandise truck when needed.

Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.

Handle receipt of all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries (signs, supplies, special deliveries, etc.).

Maintain cleanliness and organization of all Stockrooms.

Help deliver and place merchandise on sales floor when all merchandise is processed.

Secure and process any back‑stock according to Company policy.

Mate merchandising of department, including back stock.

Reduce loss due to damage.

Ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in assigned area.

Perform floor moves and signing, including promotional signing as needed.

Perform re‑wraps as needed.

Loss Prevention

Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program. Provide a large customer service presence on the sales floor, engage customers and associates, and heighten loss prevention awareness.

Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions and safeguard confidential information, cash and credit card information, and merchandise.

Maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system.

Conduct “Code 50” package inspections.

Execute Company best practices to maximize productivity while minimizing steps and touches.

Front End Supervision and Operations

Execute Company best practices to maximize productivity, minimizing steps and extra touches. Ensure associates meet Company standards at the Front End.

Maintain pace, energy, and presence at the Front End; manage the line to expedite customer wait time.

Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other Front End procedures to meet friendly and productivity standards.

Control associate break schedule for backups, lunches, and breaks.

Ensure all equipment is working properly.

Maintain proper supplies and recovery for the Front End area.

Expedite go‑backs, properly scanned, security tagged, and ticketed.

Teach all associates the “Scan and Bag” best practice.

Ensure salability of merchandise on the Front End, aisle tables, Men’s/Women’s 4‑way features, and specialty racks.

Fitting Rooms

Responsible for maintenance and cleanliness of the fitting rooms.

Audit and account for all fitting room garment tags per Company policy.

Ensure go‑back compliance throughout the day; all merchandise returned to the sales floor must be ticketed, scanned, nubbed, and security tagged as required.

Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager

Ensures cash pulls and bank deposits are conducted per Company policy.

Handle Front End control when needed; adhere to policies and procedures for refund approvals, associate purchase approvals, securing tills and cash in safe, register paid‑outs/ins, void approvals, register media, and break schedules.

Responsible for payroll administration: daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting as needed.

Other duties as assigned by Store Manager.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Fluency in English.

Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.

Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.

Basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail.

Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements/ADA

Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.

Stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100 % of the working time.

Bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly.

Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.

Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.

Specific assignments may require additional qualifications and skills.

Stockroom shifts: push, pull, and lift more than 20 lbs.

Supervisory Responsibilities
