About Us The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department is split into two distinct areas: the Parks Division and the Recreation Division.

Parks Division:

Manages and maintains all public parks, open spaces, trails, storm water retention basins, landscaping at municipal facilities and Thunderbird Conservation Park, and monitors safety and park and facility use.

Recreation Division:

Offers opportunities to enhance the social, physical, mental and economic health of the community through diverse recreation programs and facilities located at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center, Glendale Adult Center, Historic Sahuaro Ranch, five community centers, and other recreation locations throughout the city.

Role The Recreation Supervisor at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatic Center leads high‑quality recreational programs that enhance guest experience, drive membership growth and retention, and expand inclusive, engaging programming for the community. The role focuses on developing a strong guest services program, training and supervising frontline staff, fostering a customer‑centric environment, designing, promoting, and evaluating innovative programs, and supporting outreach, marketing, and retention initiatives.

Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, and supervises the activities and staff of recreation centers and major programs.

Participates in establishing goals and objectives for the department and for areas of responsibility.

Participates in planning the department budget; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; monitors the budget for areas of responsibility.

Recruits, selects, trains, and monitors regular and temporary staff.

Performs on‑site program inspections and evaluations to ensure compliance with program and safety policies and procedures.

Conducts research and analysis, recommends, and establishes schedules and fees for programs and events in areas of responsibility.

Investigates and resolves complex or sensitive citizen complaints or problems.

Conducts assessments on program expansion, development of new facilities, and renovations to existing facilities.

Coordinates activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and organizations.

Performs research, analyzes findings, prepares recommendations for changes in recreational programming; monitors and evaluates program outcomes.

Prepares reports on recreation activities and other statistics in areas of responsibility.

Develops yearly program calendars for areas of responsibility.

Interprets and enforces department policies, procedures, and regulations.

Determines distribution materials and methods to promote recreation programs.

Monitors the purchase, use and care of recreation equipment.

Participates in the preparation of grant applications.

Acts as liaison to community groups and agencies.

Operates city vehicles.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, leisure services, or a related field and three years of professional recreation work and recreational planning experience, including one year of supervisory experience.

• Certified Parks & Recreation Professional Certification preferred, but not required.

Other qualifying experience:

One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.

Salary A Grade 410; FLSA exempt.

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave

The City observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full‑time employees receive an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave for cultural or religious holidays.

Vacation leave accrues at 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours per year). Increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years, then caps at 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.

Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours per year).

Retirement Participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) with an 12% contribution rate, mandatory and collected each pay period.

Special Requirements

Valid Arizona driver’s license.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and First Aid certification.

Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Safe‑sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing prior to and during employment; post‑offer physical assessment required.
