Job Summary: The Lifeguard Manager, reporting to both the General Manager and Assistant General Manager, oversees all aquatic activities and lifeguarding operations at the Lagoon. The role collaborates with the Operations Assistant to set strategic direction, implements it by supervising team members, manages daily staffing and budgeting, mentors staff, approves training programs, conducts inspections, tracks guest satisfaction metrics, and resolves on‑site issues. Candidates should anticipate daily water work.

Key Responsibilities

Directly oversee the Lifeguard team's performance, ensuring execution of all policies and compliance with safety benchmarks and budgets.

Coach, develop, and hold team members accountable for deviations from standards.

Establish individual and team performance objectives to achieve departmental goals.

Ensure lifeguards maintain full competency and certification in First Aid, CPR, and all water rescue techniques at all times.

Perform lifeguard duties as necessary, including monitoring water activities, administering first aid, and leading or participating in water rescue operations.

Identify, evaluate, and promptly resolve issues using innovative solutions and sound judgment.

Complete daily reports, maintain logs, manage inventory, and initiate necessary supply orders.

Create staff schedules and work plans, swiftly resolving conflicts to ensure consistent staffing levels.

Oversee recruitment and training of team members, including regular in-service training sessions.

Participate in the Manager on Duty rotation as the senior leader on-site, assuming responsibility for all operational aspects.

Fulfill any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School diploma, BA or degree seeking (preferred)

Minimum two years supervisory experience (preferred)

Minimum two years lifeguard experience (required)

Hospitality management experience (preferred)

Must pass Swim Test and obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, current ARC Deep Water Lifeguard Certification (LGI or LGIT). (Required)

Must be available to work mornings, nights, holidays, and weekends. (Flexible schedule hours will vary)

Efficient, well organized, and able to handle a variety of duties simultaneously.

Professional manner, discretion, and appearance.

Excellent communication skills.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Must be comfortable standing/walking for long periods of time outdoors in and around water, including elevated areas in all weather conditions.

All candidates must pass a background check and drug screening as a condition of employment.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Swim Test Event 1: Swim‑Tread‑Swim

Jump into the water from the side, fully submerge, recover to the surface, and swim 150 yards.

After swimming 150 yards, maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading, without support.

After treading for 2 minutes, swim an additional 50 yards.

While swimming, you must keep your face in the water and demonstrate proper breath control.

You may use front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted.

Swim goggles are allowed.

While treading, you must only use your legs, keeping your hands placed under your armpits, and your head must remain above the water.

Event 2: Timed Event

Arrange a 20‑yard swim distance and place a 10‑pound object at a minimum depth of 7 to 10 feet (consistent with the maximum water depth for training).

Goggles are not permitted for this event.

You have 1 minute, 40 seconds to complete the following:

Swim 20 yards (your face may be in or out of the water).

Perform a surface dive (feet‑first or head‑first) to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10‑pound object.

Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping your face at or near the surface. Swimming underwater during this distance is not allowed.

Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
