Transplant Coordinator - VAD Department: University Hospital | Transplant Center Job Description
This position is responsible for the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care for patients with a ventricular assist device. This position also includes a significant research and education component involving the development of educational materials, patient recruitment for clinical trials, and data collection for regulatory bodies. Position Summary
RESEARCH: participation in clinical trials, data collection and gathering for all regulatory bodies, reporting in time frames identified, record keeping according to regulatory standards. CLINICAL CARE: coordination of care from time of referral pre‑VAD to transplantation and post operative follow‑up including surgical coordination, inpatient consultation, outpatient clinic visits. Serves as liaison for the transplant team, cardiologists, perfusion technology, consulting services, dietetics, social services, outlying physician offices/clinics, insurance company representatives/case managers, and research coordinators. EDUCATION: Develops and educates the patient on device, trains staff, maintains current knowledge of all devices, Develops and presents educational programs for patients and community facilities in the Central Ohio area; participates in support group activities as time allows. Assists with coordination and submission of annual statistics to national organizations and governmental agencies. Assists with on‑call support and services for the heart transplant coordinator team. Attends regular staff meetings with the CTC and other thoracic coordinators. Minimum Education Required
Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in nursing Required Qualifications
Graduate from an approved college of nursing. Current Ohio RN licensure, BSN required, Master's degree preferred. Prior cardio‑thoracic and/or transplant experience, care of patients with ventricular assist devices and research experience preferred. Knowledge of computer programming and database information systems required. Flexible, sensitive and adaptable to patient care, research, and transplant activities. Additional Information
