Position Summary:
Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Student Engagement & Programs Manager will lead and enhance all student programs and initiatives across the Carl Vinson Institute of Government (Institute) which currently include the Vinson Institute Fellows Program, PROPEL Rural Scholars Program, and Georgia Legislative Internship Program (GLIP); as well as new student orientation, student engagement, student professional development, and student recruitment efforts. The incumbent will also collaborate with the HR team on the broader employee experience.
The Student Engagement & Programs Manager will collaborate internally across each of the Institute's eight divisions to accomplish tasks. This position will also serve as the primary point of contact with external stakeholders, including but not limited to schools/colleges, Graduate School, Experiential Learning, Student Affairs, Office of Academic and Community Engagement, Career Center, etc. to cultivate and strengthen our partnerships across campus and enhance our student programs. Independent judgment is involved to plan, prioritize and organize the workload, as well as evaluate and implement meaningful changes to student program practices or procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in higher education, student personnel administration, counseling, or related field
Career services, student affairs, and/or mentorship program experience
Duties & Responsibilities
ENGAGEMENT
– Engage internal and external stakeholders.
Serving as a liaison between students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other departments on day‑to‑day programmatic, operational, and administrative issues; facilitates seminars, meetings, special projects, and problem resolution.
Serving as point of information for challenges and innovations regarding student engagement, experience, assessment, and reporting for CVIOG & PSO faculty and staff.
Collaborating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in designing and executing CVIOG student programs.
Supervising one to two Graduate Assistants.
Co‑leading the PROPEL Rural Scholars Program.
Leading the Vinson Institute Fellows Program.
Co‑leading the Georgia Legislative Internship Program (GLIP) with UGA’s GLIP Coordinator.
Cultivating relationships with campus partners to improve our student recruitment strategies and our talent pool with individuals with wide range of professional and academic experiences.
Providing recommendations and direction for designing and publishing the development of promotional materials, educational materials, training resources, and/or newsletters as appropriate for the Institute’s student programs and initiatives.
Designing and executing stewardship strategies to express gratitude to our student employees and student mentors.
Designing and executing social media and marketing campaigns in coordination with the Office of Communications to better tell our story around our student employees, student programs and their overall impact.
Collaborating with the HR Team on broader employee engagement strategies and initiatives, when requested.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
– Provide structure and direction for the Institute’s student programs.
Designing, developing, and producing a master project plan and implementation schedule for each student program.
Conducting all coordination for and managing the execution of all student related events.
Evaluating, designing, and implementing programs/events to enrich the student experience at the Institute.
Providing recommendations and direction for the design and facilitation of CVIOG New Student Orientation each semester.
Providing leadership for the development, implementation, and marketing of the Institute’s student programs.
Providing recommendations and directions to improve each of the Institute’s student programs.
Designing and executing programs to enhance our students’ personal and professional development.
Coordinating and implementing the activities of students, faculty, and/or staff engaged in implementation and administration of program goals.
Evaluating and elevating each of the Institute’s student programs/initiatives for continuous quality improvement.
Exploring the design and implementation of alumni programs to keep our student graduates informed and inspired.
PROJECT ADMINISTRATION
– Provide timely communication and accurate reporting for the Institute’s student programs.
Inputting programs and participant data in the Quantitative Performance Measures, GAIL, and our project portfolio management system.
Collecting and analyzing data; preparing scheduled and special reports; and maintaining program records and statistical information.
Performing clerical and administrative support tasks, including developing and editing program correspondence, reports, and resources.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
Drive long distances within the state of Georgia
Sit and work at a computer workstation for an extended amount of time
Lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
Additional Schedule Information Normal business hours are M‑F, 8‑5. Occasional after hours may be needed.
