Full‑time Position

Work Days: Monday - Friday Work Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Work Location: 1115 Mission Rd, San Antonio, TX 78210

Mission Seton Home works to break the cycle of abuse and poverty by providing a caring home, education, and support services necessary to transform the lives of pregnant and parenting teen mothers and their children.

Summary The Parenting Educator provides treatment and administrative tasks assigned to the Parenting Education Department (PED). The Parenting Educator will maintain a caseload of 23-30 Seton Home clients to include parenting education in group, small group, and individual settings. The Parenting Educator will train and collaborate with direct care staff on a regular basis so that all education will be reinforced in daily interactions with the clients. The Parenting Educator will document parenting services in a timely manner and reflect appropriate interventions to the clients. Parenting Educator serves as a part of the interdisciplinary team that develops and supports the families.

Position Responsibilities

Maintain a caseload of individual sessions and/or group classes

Substitute for Parent Coordinator as necessary in facilitating parenting groups, individual sessions, and/or developmental screenings

Create, measure, and update parenting goals and objectives for assigned residents’ Plans of Service, transfer, and discharge summaries

Maintain continuous communication with appropriate Seton Home staff to discuss resident’s progress in the parenting program

Conduct parenting related staff development trainings with staff members

Assists with maintaining accurate reports of program performance

Serve as point staff person to collect, enter, and communicate program performance to include AAPI-2 scores, ASQ-3, class attendance and other performance measures in internal database as required on time. Alert supervisor when PE does not report data on‑time

Schedule guest speakers to conduct presentations on pertinent parenting topics

Coordinate with other agencies, schools, and/or hospitals to provide programs, training, and/or services for the residents related to pregnancy or parenting

Inform residential and daycare staff of current infant/child safety recalls monthly

Utilize up to date and evidence‑based curriculum for parenting education

Attend meetings and trainings as assigned by Seton Home

Plan for and facilitate weekly classes for clients, providing parenting information based on approved parenting curriculum and/or training

Develop materials and forms as needed for the parenting program

Maintain a culture of trauma informed care at all times

Must be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics

Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well‑being of self, others

Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization

Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory

As a Seton Home employee, attendance and successful completion of a 10‑day New Employee Orientation is mandated for the position. The inability to meet this requirement will conclude employment with the Agency

Requirements

Education

Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent

Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience

Preferred 2 years’ experience teaching parenting skills to adolescent mothers

Minimum of 1‑year employment experience teaching parenting skills to adolescent mothers

License and Credentials

Reliable transportation

Valid driver license

Valid vehicle insurance

Submit to a state and federal background check, Child abuse and neglect registry check, and Tuberculosis screening

Be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks and have the skills necessary to perform essential duties and responsibilities

Able to show proof of immunity to vaccine‑preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route if working directly with unaccompanied children

Varicella: two doses of varicella vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) OR born in the United States before 1980 with a reported history of chickenpox (verified by an adult present at the time of illness) OR titers indicating varicella immunity OR documentation from healthcare provider verifying previous infection

MMR: two doses of MMR vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) OR titers indicating immunity to all three diseases

DTaP or DTap: Complete primary vaccination series. If primary vaccination series completed in childhood, one DTaP dose in adulthood

Influenza: one dose annually during flu season

Minimum Knowledge And Skills

Bilingual: Fluent in English/Spanish with regards to reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of the spoken language

Working knowledge of TDFPS Minimum Standards, and Office of Refugee Resettlement- Division of Unaccompanied Children’s Services National Care Standards

Possess therapeutic sensitivity to the service population cultural and socio‑economic characteristics

Experience with computer software and MS Office (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and OneDrive)

Must be detail oriented, organized, self‑motivated, work well independently and on a team

Must have good written and verbal skills

Must have good critical thinking and problem‑solving skills

Travel Requirements 10% local and 10% overnight
