Job Duties Western State Hospital is seeking a full‑time Trades Tech IV Supervisor to provide oversight to journeyman‑level staff ensuring compliance and electrical support & services. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairs, installation, and preventive maintenance on the buildings and grounds at Western State Hospital (WSH) and the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA); providing snow removal and emergency services as required; and managing on‑call, weekend and holiday maintenance coverage as directed by the supervisor.
Additional duties involve performance management: ensuring expectations are clear, well‑communicated, and aligned with department goals; delivering frequent, constructive feedback; conducting interim evaluations; and completing performance planning and evaluation documentation by deadlines. The role also requires preventive maintenance on equipment, buildings, and grounds using the work order control system (TMS), reporting corrective maintenance to the control center, managing facility maintenance schedules, and overseeing troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems and equipment (lamps, light fixtures, electric motors, switches, rheostats, motor starters). Lockout/tag‑out procedures must be applied to defective equipment as required.

High School diploma or equivalent
Valid Virginia Driver’s License
Demonstrated mastery of skills in relevant specialization (e.g., Experience as a Journeyman, Military Equivalence‑Interior Electrician MOS 12R, or Master Electrician eligibility)
Master level certification/license
Proof of work experience and education
Experience with building electrical systems
Additional Considerations
Experience with building automation systems
Experience with building fire alarm systems
Experience working with other trades
Experience with generators and automatic transfer switches
Bilingual
Veteran or veteran spouse
