Texas Tech University seeks an experienced leader to serve as Assistant Director for Access and Surveillance Systems within the Operations Division's Technology Services unit. This position oversees the strategic planning, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of enterprise‑wide physical access and surveillance systems that protect the university’s people, property, and assets. The Assistant Director ensures operational reliability, regulatory compliance, and alignment with institutional goals while managing a dedicated team, external vendor partnerships, and collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the campus community. Position Description

Performs varied and complex administrative duties in the management and coordination of a large specialized project and/or program. Requires independent judgment and application of established policies and procedures. Works under general supervision with evaluation based on overall results obtained. Major/Essential Functions

Lead the design, deployment, and lifecycle management of electronic access control platforms, card readers, credentials, and integration with identity management systems. Direct the standardization, procurement, installation, and preventive maintenance of mechanical and electro‑mechanical locking systems across campus facilities. Oversee the expansion, monitoring, and maintenance of video surveillance infrastructure, including storage, analytics, and integration with incident response protocols. Ensure secure deployment and operation of connected devices; collaborate with IT security teams to enforce segmentation, firmware updates, and vulnerability management for all security‑related endpoints. Work with vendors and internal teams to establish contracts, evaluate performance, and maintain productive relationships with system integrators, hardware suppliers, and service providers. Plan and execute capital improvement projects, system upgrades, and new construction integrations using structured methodologies to meet scope, schedule, and budget targets. Directly supervise three lock technicians, one support staff member, and a variable number of student employees. Provide coaching, performance evaluations, training, and workload prioritization to foster a high‑performing team. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Proven ability to manage technical teams and cross‑functional projects in a complex organization. Exceptional communication skills with the ability to work effectively with widely varied stakeholders across campus, interact professionally with a diverse set of individuals, deliver polished presentations, and articulate complex technical concepts clearly to non‑technical audiences. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Three years of related administrative and technical experience. Additional job‑related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis. This position is designated as involving access to critical infrastructure systems and/or research, as defined by Texas Executive Order GA‑48. Candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment. Employees are required to comply with all applicable state and federal regulations related to the protection of critical infrastructure. Ongoing employment is dependent upon maintaining eligibility for access and successfully passing periodic security and compliance reviews. Preferred Qualifications

Industry certifications such as CPP, PSP, CISSP, or manufacturer‑specific credentials (Lenel, Genetec, Milestone, etc.). Experience with enterprise access control platforms, IP video management software, and IoT security protocols including CCURE, CBORD, Axis, American Dynamics, or similar. Familiarity with higher‑education environments and campus operations. Safety Information

Full Time Pay Basis

Monthly Annualized Pay Range

$78,900 – $126,200 Pay Statement

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan. Travel Required

Up to 25% Shift
