Job Summary:
Public Safety Associate (PSA) is a uniform position responsible for supporting Public Safety operations at Children’s Wisconsin facilities. Duties may include, but are not limited to, providing badge access credentialing services; greeting and engaging with guests and visitors to ensure a positive experience; screening visitors according to visitation guidelines; determining the guest’s destination and transportation needs; directing visitors with precise way‑finding; reporting suspicious activities; providing support and guidance to visitors during emergency conditions; performing weapon screening services at designated locations to prevent weapons and other prohibited property from entering the Children’s property.
Essential Functions:
Primarily works at Welcome Center stations; badges and screens visitors per our visitation policy; determines guest destination and transportation needs, and directs them with precise way‑finding; directs visitors to all ambulatory clinics, ancillary locations, inpatient areas, EDTC and amenities on the Milwaukee campus.
Builds credible relationships with customers by delivering personal attention, demonstrating respect, recognizing patient rights under HIPAA, maintaining confidentiality, and responding to customer concerns.
Performs weapon screening services at designated locations to prevent weapons and other prohibited property from entering Children’s property; secures property/evidence as needed, liaisons with local law enforcement.
Maintains area in a safe condition during emergency conditions and keeps the area neat and orderly, contacting appropriate departments as needed.
Maintains current knowledge of CW policy, procedures and departmental Standards of Work (SOW) through regular independent review of internal communications and relevant meetings.
Ensures personal actions and actions of supervised employees comply with Children’s Organizational Code of Ethics, applicable policies, regulations and laws.
Education:
High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required.
Post‑high‑school coursework in criminal justice or an equivalent field of study preferred.
Experience:
1+ year of experience in customer service required.
1+ year of experience as a uniformed security officer in healthcare security, public safety, corporate security, law enforcement, and/or military service preferred.
1+ year of experience performing weapon screening preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Assess demeanor of internal and external customers, adjusting approach as appropriate to enhance overall experience.
Maintain composure under pressure in a safe, welcoming, and therapeutic environment.
Complete all required introductory and annual competency training processes.
Basic computer skills for operating and troubleshooting equipment and systems.
Read/write ability for required reports and record‑keeping.
Critical thinking to make independent decisions in a complex, fast‑paced environment.
Excellent customer service and prioritization skills.
Confidence and finesse to diffuse negativity effectively.
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to interact with staff, patients, and visitors.
Use weapon screening technologies effectively to perform duties and responsibilities.
Licenses and Certifications:
BLS‑Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council) within 90 days required.
