Base pay range $96,336.00/yr - $121,413.00/yr
Description The New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) provides operational support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year, supporting more than 4,900 applications for 53 New York State Agencies.
Under the direction of the Information Technology Architect 2, the Technology Analyst 2 (Robotic Process Automation) will be responsible for identifying, designing, and overseeing the implementation of software robots (bots) to automate repetitive tasks and processes, meeting client agency business needs by increasing operational efficiency and productivity. The position will collaborate with business managers and IT professionals to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications, ensuring the successful execution of IT projects. This position may directly supervise a team of Technology Analyst 1’s (Robotic Process Automation).
Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
Analyze business processes and workflows to identify opportunities for automation.
Design, test, and implement RPA bots to automate repetitive tasks.
Work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and requirements.
Document RPA processes, including technical design, test results, and user manuals.
Provide ongoing maintenance and support for RPA bots to ensure they function properly.
Monitor and manage automated processes to ensure they are operating efficiently and effectively.
Train end users on how to use RPA bots and handle any issues that may arise.
Keep up-to-date with advancements and best practices in RPA technologies.
Provide input for strategic planning around the use of RPA technologies.
This position may perform the full range of supervisory duties.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Six (6) years of information technology experience, two (2) years of which must be within the discipline of robotic process automation.
Substitutions
Associate’s degree with 15 semester credit hours in computer science or a related field substitutes for one year of general information technology experience.
Candidates in a bachelor’s degree program with at least 15 semester credit hours in computer science or a related field can substitute for one year of general information technology experience.
Bachelor’s degree in any field including or supplemented by fifteen (15) semester credit hours in computer science or a related field substitutes for three years of general information technology experience.
Bachelor’s degree in any field substitutes for two (2) years of general information technology experience.
Master’s degree or higher in computer science or related field substitutes for one year of general information technology experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference for candidates holding relevant RPA certification from recognized institutions or software providers.
Technical proficiency in RPA tools like UiPath, Blue Prism, or Automation Anywhere to develop, design, and test automation scripts.
Strong analytical skills to understand business processes, identify automation opportunities, and evaluate the feasibility of automation.
Excellent problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues that may arise during the automation process and come up with effective solutions.
Knowledge of business process re-engineering and process mapping, to optimize and improve business processes prior to automation.
Strong communication skills to interact with stakeholders, understand their needs, and explain technical details in a non-technical language.
Project management skills to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and deliver projects on time and within budget.
Understanding of programming languages like .NET, C#, Python, or Java to customize automation solutions as per business needs.
Knowledge of SQL and relational databases, to handle data-related tasks in automated processes.
Familiarity with technologies that are often integrated with RPA, like artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts.

Appointment to this position and continued employment with the agency is contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining New York State residency within six months of hiring.
Appointment to this position is not final until all agency approvals have been granted.
Additional Comments ITS will not offer permanent employment to any candidate unless the candidate provides documentation that they are authorized to accept work in the United States on a permanent basis. It is the policy of ITS not to hire F1 or H1 visa holders for permanent employment or to sponsor non-immigrant aliens for temporary work authorization visas or for permanent residence. Some positions may require fingerprinting. Some positions may require up to 25% travel and/or lifting up to 50 lbs. Some positions are pending Civil Service approval. If eligible, positions located in New York City will receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid-Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay. To permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.
