Quality Assurance Automation Tester
Location:
Birmingham, AL (Remote during contract; onsite 5 days/week upon conversion)

Role Overview This role focuses heavily on
API and automation testing
within a Java-based environment. The QA Automation Tester will validate application code prior to deployment by manually testing APIs in Postman and converting those tests into a
Rest Assured Java framework
integrated into the CI/CD pipeline. Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with developers are critical.
This is a
contract-to-permanent
opportunity (preferred), though strong contract-only or direct-hire candidates may be considered.
Core Responsibilities
Design and lead the
automated testing strategy
for Motion applications
Develop, execute, and maintain
automated test suites
(API + UI)
Manually validate APIs using
Postman , then convert tests into
Rest Assured (Java)
for pipeline deployment
Collaborate with developers to:
Understand system logic
Diagnose test failures
Assign stable DOM identifiers for UI automation
Execute regression, unit, and performance testing across test and production environments
Log defects, document results, and provide
daily and release-based test reports
Ensure compliance with:
SDLC best practices
OWASP Top 10 security principles
Internal QA policies and procedures
Support a
bi-weekly release cycle
Mentor junior QA team members and recommend QA process improvements
Research and evaluate new automation tools
Communicate testing status clearly to QA leadership, developers, and project managers
Required Skills & Experience
8+ years
as a QA professional
5+ years
in automation, system design, or software development
Strong hands-on experience with:
Java
Rest Assured
Postman
Selenium
SQL
Experience coding API tests and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines
Strong understanding of:
Relational databases
Structured development and change control methodologies
Excellent
verbal and written English communication skills
(very important)
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-based environment
Preferred
BS degree
QA/Test certifications (CSTE, CAST, CSQA, CASQ)
