About This Role The Project Manager, Digital Safety Initiatives plays a pivotal role in driving the effectiveness of the External Affairs & Partnerships Division and advancing the global digital safety and online protection portfolio, including the Center of Excellence on Online Child Protection. This position provides high-level project management, operational, and grants coordination support across ChildFund’s online protection program and policy initiatives. Working closely with the Vice President, External Affairs and Partnerships, the Project Manager ensures that divisional priorities—spanning the Center of Excellence, global partnerships, research, and policy engagement—are executed with excellence, aligned with ChildFund’s mission, and positioned for growth. The role oversees key project timelines, budgets, and operational systems, ensuring cohesion between program implementation, advocacy, and donor engagement.
The Project Manager also plays a vital support role in enabling senior leaders to participate effectively in external events, advance visibility for ChildFund’s digital safety work, and help position the portfolio for future funding and influence.
This position provides executive assistance for the Vice President, leads project management, division-wide grants administration, and new business transitions, while also overseeing grant budgets and operational systems. Working closely with VP of the Division, the Project Manager provides strategic coordination across grants management, external partnerships, and internal collaboration, ensuring divisional priorities are executed with excellence, aligned with ChildFund’s mission, and positioned for growth. The Project Manager serves as the engine that enables senior leaders to engage high-level donors and participate in premier conferences, ensuring they are fully prepared and supported for external influence and visibility.
Required Experience and Education
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required.
Project Management Professional or similar certification a plus but not required.
At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in operations, project coordination, or grants management within a nonprofit, NGO, or similar environment (international exposure preferred but not required).
Experience managing a portfolio of grants and/or projects of at least $1 million in value.
Experience assisting with grant budget preparation, budget monitoring, and budget reconciliation.
Experience directly supporting executive leadership.
Primary Responsibilities This is a full-time, partially grant-funded position through December 2028. This position is open to internal and external candidates in the following locations: Washington, DC metro area, Richmond, Virginia metro area, Mexico City, Mexico, Guatemala City, Guatemala, Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Quito, Ecuador, La Paz, Bolivia, or Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Division-wide Coordination – Digital Safety Program and Policy Portfolio
Executive Assistance to the VP: Support VP in preparing reports, presentations, and briefing materials for senior leadership, Board committees, and high-profile external consultations.
Ensure deadlines, deliverables, and quality standards are consistently met for governance and oversight.
Support the VP and divisional leadership in ensuring the online protection portfolio operates as a high-performing, well-coordinated, and revenue-generating function within the division.
Coordinate complex cross-divisional priorities spanning business development, partnerships, sponsorship, policy, and the Center of Excellence on Online Child Protection, ensuring alignment across all online protection workstreams.
Project Management – Center of Excellence
Lead end-to-end project management for the Center of Excellence, including planning, execution, risk management, donor reporting, and partner/stakeholder communications.
Drive integration of Center of Excellence activities with broader divisional and organizational priorities.
The Project Manager also plays a central role in aligning the Center’s priorities with the wider online protection portfolio, ensuring coherence between programmatic delivery, policy engagement, and donor commitments.
Grants Management – Division-wide
Oversee the full lifecycle of grants management across all divisional projects across all funding streams—ensuring compliance, monitoring and reporting, close-out, and documentation.
Manage individual grant and Center of Excellence budgets, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and compliance with donor requirements.
Strengthen grants management systems and processes across the division to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and consistency with organizational standards.
Partner with finance, program, and business development colleagues to align grants with budgets, donor priorities, and strategic objectives.
New Business Capture & Post-Award Transitions
Support coordination of capture planning for new business opportunities, ensuring smooth handoffs from proposal development to implementation.
Establish and maintain processes that ensure early post-award alignment on budgets, deliverables, compliance requirements, and donor expectations.
Support project start-ups to ensure donor confidence and seamless transition into execution for policy advocacy and digital safety protection programs.
External Engagement & Consultations
Coordinate logistics, scheduling, and follow-up for high-level external donor and partner meetings.
Support the VP and senior leadership to engage in external events, raise visibility for ChildFund’s online protection portfolio, and strengthen positioning with donors and partners.
Prepare materials, reports, and coordination support that enable senior leaders to effectively execute current funds and position the online protection portfolio for new funding.
Systems & Process Improvement
Develop, recommend, and implement operational improvements to enhance divisional accountability, learning, and results.
Strengthen coordination between program teams, finance, business development, and external partners contributing to ChildFund’s online protection and policy work.
Safeguarding & Compliance
Remain alert and responsive to any safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills, and conduct yourself consistent with the Safeguarding Policy.
