HDR is looking for a Transportation Planning Section Manager to lead our Central Florida team based out of our Orlando office. The Transportation Planning Section Manager is the leader of our large local program, helping develop and meet financial goals, and supporting the area marketing plan while working closely with the Marketing Manager, fellow Section Managers, and multiple Project Managers. Their team is engaged in transportation planning, project development, NEPA/PD&E, traffic engineering, and transportation policy activities. These services support our diverse transportation client base in the Central Florida area. Our Transportation Section Managers work with our Transportation Business Group Leader to deliver comprehensive transportation services for our clients.
Take responsibility for operations of the section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control, and marketing support
Work in partnership with regional business development directors, client managers, and business class leaders to develop a short‑term marketing action plan for longer‑term program development. Be involved in marketing proposals and interviews
Develop multidisciplinary teams through training and work planning exercises
Lead project teams to successfully deliver on a variety of transportation planning projects including complete streets, transit planning, traffic analysis, long‑range planning, community planning, or PD&E
Provide overall support to area leadership to maintain regional planning practice profitability, staff development, and client relationships
Participation in HDR National Practice Group(s), Industry Association(s), and Civic Organization(s)
Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff to implement, monitor, and support company policy
Maintain current knowledge of related Federal, State, and Local guidelines, regulations and policies
Preferred Qualifications
Florida PE or ability to obtain within 6 months (PE)
APA recognition as Certified Planner (AICP)
Project Management Professional (PMP)
Experience leading multi‑discipline groups of professional staff
Experience working with or for FDOT
Experience working with or for Florida Cities or Counties
Experience working with or for an MPO/TPO organization
Fluency with Microsoft tools such as MS Project, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint and OneDrive
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
A minimum of 10 years experience
Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role
Strong communication and listening skills
Ability to handle multiple assignments
Good leadership and organizational skills
