The Leland Stanford, Jr University, Department of History is seeking applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor in the area of modern history of South Asia with an emphasis on India in the 19th and 20th centuries. In addition to research and scholarly activities, the selected candidate will teach courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level with a demonstrated commitment to mentoring. The ideal candidate will have an internationally recognized, robust, demonstrated record of scholarship, research, teaching on topics related to colonial state formation, social and economic history, global history, labor, policing, protest, historiography, pedagogy, decolonization, and postcolonial processes in modern India. They will have an extensive teaching and advising experience at both undergraduate and graduate level in the U.S. and global academic settings. They will work with at least two to three research languages of the Indian subcontinent. We particularly encourage applicants who are able to bring their work and interests into a wide conversation amongst both South Asia specialists and non-specialists across the university. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent degree in History, conferred and in hand by appointment start date. The pay range for this position is $108,000 - $127,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
