Summary The EHS Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) support to Operations, Processing, and site-wide functions within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with local and federal regulations, corporate standards, and industry best practices. The EHS Specialist contributes to a strong safety culture, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement across all operational areas.

Functions

Provide Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) support to Operations, Processing, and cross-functional teams.

Conduct investigations of accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, ensuring timely documentation and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

Actively participate in regulatory agency, client, and corporate audits, maintaining continuous audit readiness.

Environmental Support

Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste programs in compliance with applicable environmental regulations and corporate standards.

Oversee raw and potable water systems to ensure operational integrity and regulatory compliance.

Prepare, monitor, and track environmental permits, regulatory reports, inspections, and audit responses.

Safety Support

Conduct equipment, facility, and process safety reviews to ensure safe operations and compliance with internal standards.

Coordinate and ensure completion of Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews.

Develop and implement safety programs, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Machine Guarding, and Electrical Safety.

Conduct detailed analysis of documentation including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), employee certifications, and other safety-related records.

Review and validate compliance requirements for the granting of Work Permits during shutdown activities.

Ensure that all documentation aligns with company EHS standards, regulatory frameworks, and industry best practices.

Collaborate with EHS staff and contractors to identify gaps, inconsistencies, or risks in submitted documentation.

EHS Program Development & Implementation

Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, including: Safety Programs:Industrial Hygiene, PPE, LOTO, Machine Guarding, Electrical Safety, Risk Assessments, Emergency Response, Respiratory Protection, Noise and Air Sampling. Environmental Programs: Air emissions, water systems, and waste management.

Develop audit protocols, audit programs, procedures, and best practices to support regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.

Industrial Hygiene

Execute industrial hygiene services, including air and noise monitoring surveys.

Perform data gathering, sampling, and assessments across multiple areas of the manufacturing site.

Generate detailed Industrial Hygiene reports, including methodologies, results, conclusions, and recommendations.

Education \ Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or related area.

Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience andKnowledge in EHS regulations.

Experience in medical devicesor pharmaceutical environment.

Skills

Ability to provide Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) support to manufacturing and operations teams.

Experience conducting accident, incident, near-miss, and unsafe condition investigations, including implementation of corrective actions.

Experience supporting regulatory, corporate, and client audits, ensuring audit readiness and effective inspection responses.

Knowledge of hazardous and non-hazardous waste management programs and environmental compliance requirements.

Ability to oversee environmental systems, including raw and potable water, permits, and regulatory reporting.

Experience performing safety risk assessments, equipment and facility reviews, and pre-start safety evaluations.

Proven capability to develop and implement EHS programs (Industrial Hygiene, PPE, LOTO, Machine Guarding, Electrical Safety, Emergency Response).

Hands-on experience executing industrial hygiene monitoring (air and noise) and generating technical assessment reports.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Proficiency in the English language.

Work Methodology

100% Onsite

Administrative Shift, Monday to Friday and able to support non standard shifts or projects based on customer needs

Full Time Opportunity (30-40 hrs. per week)

3 months of 1st contract, renewed each 3 to 6 months - Long term opportunity

Professional services contract with potential extension based on performance and budget
