Dow is seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to join our team in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will become part of a highly collaborative global capital engineering organization that includes Civil, Piping, Mechanical, Instrumentation, and Process Automation disciplines. You will provide expertise for the design of capital projects valued $10MM or greater in the electrical engineering discipline, applying design criteria, tools, best practices, and established work processes to create documentation for the installation of electrical equipment in new or existing process plants.

Responsibilities

Aid in the development of scopes, estimates, schedules, design strategies and required resources on projects.

Design electrical systems that are safe, reliable, economical, constructible, and maintainable in accordance with Dow standards.

Coordinate the activities of other designers to accomplish electrical design of projects.

Exchange technical information with peers, other engineering disciplines, and suppliers.

Use CAE/CAD tools to create complex detailed design drawings and documentation for construction bid packages and for inquiring/ordering electrical equipment.

Independently perform electrical design functions in grounding, lighting, communications, power distribution, schematic development, sizing calculations, and electrical layouts.

Understand, develop, and use many different types of power distribution engineering documentation such as P&IDs, one‑line diagrams, three‑line diagrams, and schematics.

Apply knowledge and understanding of electrical distribution equipment to new and retrofit installations.

Required qualifications

High School Diploma or GED/equivalent.

Minimum 8 years of relevant experience (e.g., electrical design in heavy industrial, petrochemical, refinery, or utility power systems).

Working knowledge of industry codes and standards (NFPA, ANSI, NEC).

Willingness to travel up to 10% annually domestically and/or internationally.

Eligibility to work legally in the United States; no visa sponsorship available.

Preferred qualifications

Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering Technology.

10+ years of electrical design experience on capital projects.

Proficiency with MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).

Electrical equipment sizing and selection experience.

Experience developing designs in 3D modeling software.

Experience with CAE tools such as Microstation, AutoCAD, etc.

Strong initiative, team leadership capabilities, interpersonal relationships, and time‑management skills.
