Senior ServiceNow Technical Leader/Developer
to join an enterprise technology organization based in Reston, VA. We are looking for a highly skilled technical leader with deep expertise across ITSM, ITAM, platform integrations, and ServiceNow Discovery. This role will drive platform strategy, lead complex implementations, and ensure the long-term scalability and optimization of the ServiceNow ecosystem. Responsibilities
Platform Strategy
Lead the architectural design and strategic direction of the ServiceNow platform, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry best practices. Partner with business leaders, stakeholders, and technical teams to deliver innovative, scalable ServiceNow solutions. Define and maintain platform roadmaps focused on performance, stability, scalability, and audit compliance. Architect workflows, integrations, and modules to expand platform capabilities. ServiceNow Implementation & Optimization
Drive end-to-end implementation of ServiceNow solutions across Core Platform, ITSM, ITAM, ITOM, SecOps, GRC, TPRM, and additional modules. Oversee platform upgrades and ensure compliance with enterprise security and regulatory standards. Provide technical leadership for configuration, customization, and development efforts. Maintain documentation, technical knowledge bases, and training materials for process owners and stakeholders. Leadership
Establish governance frameworks and enforce technical best practices. Mentor and guide a team of ServiceNow engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Partner with cross-functional teams (IT, Security, Engineering, Finance, HR) to drive adoption and ensure platform success. Demonstrate strong decision-making skills and the ability to meet deadlines while leading multiple teams. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
Collaborate with executive leadership to understand business goals and deliver measurable, value-driven solutions. Communicate project status, risks, and milestones to ServiceNow leadership and stakeholders. Continuous Improvement
Implement governance and continuous improvement practices to enhance platform performance and operational efficiency. Stay current with ServiceNow releases, trends, and emerging capabilities, applying new features to improve the platform. Encourage innovation by creating a safe environment for engineers to explore new technical solutions. Required Qualifications
Experience
10+ years of hands-on ServiceNow experience with deep expertise in ITSM, ITAM, ITOM, SecOps, GRC, and TPRM. Proven background in designing and architecting complex ServiceNow implementations, including custom applications and integrations. Demonstrated success leading technical teams and delivering enterprise-scale projects. Technical Skills
Proficiency in JavaScript, Glide scripting, and Service Portal technologies (HTML, CSS, AngularJS, SASS, Bootstrap). Strong understanding of CMDB, Asset Management, Discovery, Incident, Problem, and Change Management. Experience integrating ServiceNow with external systems using REST/SOAP APIs, Integration Hub, and Spokes. Nice-to-have: Perl and Python experience in a Linux environment. Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, and Kanban methodologies. Leadership & Communication
Strong mentorship capabilities and experience fostering high-performing engineering teams. Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for business stakeholders. Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in IT, Business, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience). ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (ITSM, ITAM, or similar). ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA). ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD). ITIL v3/v4 certification is a plus. Certified Technical Architect (CTA) is a significant plus.
