Family Peer Advocate Rochester Regional Health – Behavioral Health, Home Based Crisis Intervention – Alexander Park, NY.

Summary The Family Peer Advocate supports families and caregivers of children in the Youth and Family department by providing guidance, resources, and advocacy based on shared lived experiences. The advocate assists families in accessing services, understanding their rights, and connecting with community resources. The role works closely with healthcare professionals, social workers, and other agencies to ensure families receive the support and services they need.

Responsibilities

Family Support & Advocacy – Empower families by providing education on system navigation, rights, and services, while promoting active participation in their child’s care and fostering positive behavioral strategies.

Service Coordination & Community Engagement – Make referrals, facilitate access to services, conduct assessments to identify gaps, and provide support in various community settings including homes.

Training, Leadership & Collaboration – Lead parent education, facilitate peer advocate training, and collaborate with providers and multidisciplinary teams to enhance family‑driven practices and system responsiveness.

Compliance & Professional Development – Maintain required documentation, obtain/maintain OMH‑approved credentials, participate in supervision and training, and support multiple sites based on departmental needs.

Required Qualifications

Provisional Family Peer Advocate Credential (PFPA).

Family Peer Advocate Credential must be obtained within 18 months of receiving the provisional credential.

Preferred Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED.

Physical Requirements S – Sedentary work – Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Pay Range $17.85 – $20.00 per hour.
