Job Overview
The Respiratory Therapist Assistant is responsible for performing multiple duties that require an expertise in the assembly, transport, disinfection, calibration and troubleshooting of Respiratory Related Equipment. The Respiratory Assistant works under the direction of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist. The Respiratory Therapist Assistant is responsible for maintaining an appropriate level of equipment in the various respiratory work areas and assisting the Respiratory Therapists and physician with various procedures and tasks, as directed. The position may assist in training new Respiratory Therapy Assistants or Student Respiratory Therapists on routine therapy assistant functions.
Responsibilities
Maintain the supply of medical gas cylinders in the respiratory department, and all related areas.
Restock supplies, retrieve equipment and re‑process equipment as necessary.
Maintain appropriate levels of equipment in the various respiratory care work areas.
Perform routine assembly, maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of various types of respiratory care equipment.
Follow standard precautions. Adhere to Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures.
Report equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
Transport equipment between in‑patient units and procedure areas as directed by a Respiratory Therapist.
Maintain a clean and safe environment.
Attend and participate in staff meetings/summits.
Complete required education and training as needed. Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Consistently use time and resources effectively and efficiently.
Perform all other assigned duties.
Qualifications Education/Training
Respiratory Care student currently enrolled in an accredited Associate of Science in Respiratory Care or Cardiopulmonary Sciences pre‑licensure program at a college or university affiliated with the organization.
Proof of continued enrollment in accredited pre‑licensure, professional respiratory care program with no break in enrollment.
Licensure/Certification
Maintain current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
Obtain license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the State of Florida Department of Health within three months post‑graduation.
Experience Concurrent enrollment in an Associate of Science in Respiratory Care or Cardiopulmonary Sciences pre‑licensure program not to exceed three months post‑graduation.
