The ED Tech functions primarily in direct patient care, demonstrating competent clinical practice with a variety of patients. The tech in the ED works as part of a team with a common goal of offering patient‑centered, timely care in a safe and friendly environment. The tech offers individualized compassionate care to emergency department patients, observation patients, and outpatients based on direction from the physician and RN. The tech provides non‑judgmental care for the acutely ill and non‑acute patients. Responsibilities include performing duties and procedures within scope, specimen collection, vital signs, EKGs, stocking supplies, cleaning, transportation of patients, clerical duties, lab collection, respiratory treatments, and other duties as assigned, assisting the nurse, physician, and team to provide relationship‑based patient‑centered care. The tech works with multiple sophisticated equipment and handles various patients in a friendly and frequently stressful environment. Responsibilities

40%: The tech maintains a friendly customer‑oriented attitude, treats every person with kindness, compassion, respect, and relationship‑based care. 30%: Follows direction from RN to provide services as prescribed by the physician’s plan of care, providing direct patient care including minor treatments, answering call lights, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, and other duties. 20%: Reports effectiveness of treatment plan to the RN and makes suggestions or participates in updating/revising the plan in collaboration with team members. 10%: Keeps knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines; maintains professional standards and familiarity with MyMichigan Health and ED specific policies. BLS:

Basic Life Support (Qualification Source: AHA, Essential: true, Equivalent Experience: Within 1 month of hire or transfer) PCT:

MMH PCT/CNA/EMT/LPN Certification (Essential: true, Equivalent Experience: Must hold an internal MidMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification or a current State of Michigan registry document as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or completion of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification culminating in licensure in Michigan, or be a medical assistant (MA) in Michigan, or be a nursing student enrolled in an accredited program with successfully completed first semester. Collects vital signs and weight. Participates in direct patient care: moves, lifts, and transports patients as required. Performs EKG. Performs intravenous access as ordered and within scope promptly and accurately. Performs other clinical and technical aspects of care per established policies. Recognizes and displays pleasant, friendly, and cooperative manner to public. Maintains clean and tidy exam room, including inventory of supplies. Maintains orderly patient flow. Cleans equipment. Is familiar with cardiac monitors, can apply leads and operate equipment. Can assist with emergency equipment and procedures under direct supervision of RN or ED physician. Completes documentation as required. Follows sterile technique during procedure set‑up and throughout. Assists physicians with all types of procedures. Quality

Supports the mission, goals, policies, and standards of the ED. Assists RN to ensure patient care outcomes and safety needs are met. Communicates identified problems to appropriate personnel and implements actions to assure patient needs are met. Assists unit in maintaining area per Joint Commission standards. Participates in quality improvement activities in department. Secretary

Health Care Provider certification maintained (as applicable). Performs according to procedure in all medical center emergency situations. Provides and ensures safe and secure environment for the patient. Is familiar with all safety and emergency procedures. Observes fall safety precautions. Ordering and Stocking

Assists with ordering as indicated. Orders from purchasing weekly for medical supplies, lab supplies, and office supplies. Manages special invoices for supplies not available in storeroom. Places orders with Pharmacy. Stocks exam room with supplies and fills hand‑cleaner bottles. Infection Prevention and Control

Demonstrates competency in infection prevention and control practices and policies. Possesses understanding of infection prevention and control measures designed to prevent spread of infectious diseases. Maintains standards of infection prevention and control policies. Implements and maintains isolation techniques per policy. Follows hand hygiene policies and uses personal protective equipment as required. Experience, Training and Skills

Organizational skills needed to prioritize workload. Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to convey ideas and concepts clearly. Must show knowledge, ability, and competence in treating patients ranging from pre‑natal to 100+ years. Physical/Mental Requirements And Typical Working Conditions

Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief, and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute. Can move freely about facility with or without an assisted device, and perform functions as outlined. Overall vision and hearing necessary. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk for long periods; may perform stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Exposure to blood ‑borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular attendance, stay awake. Overall dexterity required: handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling; may involve repetitive motions. Physical Demand Level: Very Heavy.
